This debate about Portuguese is kinda redundant as RTP wouldn't let the Portuguese representative sing 100% in English anyway, the 2005 debacle is as close as we're going to get.

Also lovely to see Portugal still singin' in there own language. Like all country's should do imo. Let's hope they won't change (parts of) the winning song into English, because this really makes the songs authentic and special to me.

The reality show effect is unfortunately having its hold on this selection.

Nuno & Fabia is #1, although not having the best song, just because they are famous from some stupid reality show :evil:

Please help "Canta por Mim" (Catarina Pereira) !! It's the best one!

What does rtp have to do with the fact that voters decided to vote more for Filipa and Nuno & Fabia? In my opinion nothing! Remember last year? Flor de Lis was 7th and came out as winner of Festival da Canção.

RTP is doing quite a fantastic job this year, starting with the venue. a 10000 seater capacity arena. Never has Portugal used a large arena for such an event.

The decision of using 2 semi-finals and a final show that RTP is interested in the show and of making people vote.

what I tried to say is that i think this is not the best way to have good musicians working for esc, in my opinian all presented songs are very poor without any possibility to win, and once again, Portugal will have1 more year increasing the bad esc reputation. If RTP want to stay in esc they must invite strong musicians working for strong pieces, this is really my view. cheers

I kind of agree with Mikept that the quality is low this year from Portugal. I listened to all the Top 10 online songs and none have much chance. It's a shame a country with a wonderful musical culture like Portugal can't persuade one of their great singers like Sara Tavares or Mariza to write and perform at ESC. Failing that... bring back Dulce Pontes or Dina!

I really don´t agree with you about Sara Tavares or Dina, both were in esc with poor results as we know, and about Mariza forget it, she never will be in esc, she is to good for that and she will never put in risk her good reputation in a contest with hight level of political votes, in fact the problem is not from singers but from writers. cheers

right....not to bad, but ...she didn´t won also Lucia Moniz finished 6th, the best ever place of Portugal in esc with a strong music , but also she didn´t won and many others but.....Portugal never won....

Sara was a little girl in 1994. 16 years later she has developed into a wonderful performer and a great song-writer. If she did 8th at 16 years old, she could win it, she really could. You might be right about Mariza. Shame. Amália never entered either. Shame.

It seems that "Canta por mim" was originally submitted to EMA in Slovenia and was originally set to be performed by Manca Spik. The demo is floating around on the internet.
