It isn't many countries that can afford a sports event like the Olympics or the World Cup, but Brazil is a wealthy country when it comes to trade and has a lot of nature reasources and tourism is also one of their biggest money-makers. Then again, the people of Brazil, like in many other countries in the world, has had problems with raising the minimum wage (it has improved a little during the 21st century, but it is still a long way to go). Also the gang violence in the favelas in the major cities (mainly Rio De Janeiro), which is almost like a full scale war between the Brazilian army/police and the gang.

Brazil has still a bit to come up to some other countries way of living, but I find it no question about it that Brazil is capable of taking care of the event. I am just afraid that having both World Cup and the olympics after each other, may lead to something bad economicly, a bit like Greece with Olympics and Eurovision with in two years. One of the two would have been enough for Brazil and wait with the other sports event at least 4-6 years. But I am looking forward to it a lot, It will be great games and maybe the most lovely opening show ever!

Canada's women's basketball team has a ticket to Rio after dominating in the FIBA Americas tournament. Now our men's team hopes to do the same thing as their Americas tournament kicks off - top 2 teams go to the Olympics

Great Britain ladies hockey team have qualified for Rio, and have also now allowed India to qualify thanks to England becoming European champions. So I'm happy!
