Things mostly went as expected, I guess - Australian fans always seem to love the dance bangers even when they're not popular on other polls/odds, so with a lot of them leading the polls anyway this year, it's no surprise to see the likes of Israel, Finland, and Cyprus up high. Israel in particular was about the most obvious 12 ever. Higher-than-average points for Sweden are par for the course as well, and past that everything on the list is just a glut of other market/poll favourites.

I will say, at least, that I'm surprised to see zero points to Greece. I've commented before that Australia has given Greece far less points than expected since 2015 given our large Greek diaspora – with a lot of Greek fans in our Eurovision fandom as well – but with this being the first year since Australia joining that Greece has actually sent something decent, I figured they might have gotten a few points here. That said, I suppose it's not the sort of thing that I've seen doing well with Aussie Eurofans in the past; perhaps the Greek diaspora vote went more to Cyprus instead.

A little sad to see some of my favourites out of the list entirely, despite me being one of the voters in the poll... I did what I could, Hungary, but my 12 was apparently not enough

It's simple: OGAE members represent like 0.0001 % of the entire voting population at ESC. Second, most OGAE members (not all!) prefer 2-3 genres that get most points when the OGAE voting comes which means we have a slightly narrow minded approach to ESC (don't get me wrong). I mean, scoring last year's Estonian entry that high tells everything to me and that's only one example.

Anyway, it's fun and sometimes it can predict some things, but most of the time it's just meh.

Well I wanted to know how many votes does a typical eurovision year receive?

Well I wanted to know how many votes does a typical eurovision year receive?

I remember back in 2005 or 2006, not quite sure, there were numbers of received messages and calls for semi final and final. It was 5 million or more. It was actually available to check at eurovision.tv. Now I cannot find it there.

I know that 2004 was more successful than 2005, and then 2006 was like big jump in received calls and messages.

All those points to France are insane! I feel like I'm not listening to the same song!
We'll see how we fare in May: I was convinced "Mercy" would sink without a trace tbh.

But mercy didn't sink and has been already traced. She is in a refugee camp in Sicily!

If this is anything to go by 'Mercy' won't sink in Lisbon too!! Another Top 10 incoming for France atleast.

Most of people don't have the same opinion on this entry. This is seen as one the best entries from France for a while. That's it. I do believe that we'll be able to end up in the top 5. :)

Besides, when you place in the top 3 of OGAE voting in recent years, then you're usually achieving good results (e.g 2015/2016, when top 5 placing countries did quite good at the ESC). This didn't happen for :sm: in 2013 as well as :de: though. :(

However, I'm used to thinking that OGAE votes can be considered as relevant evidence when it comes to predictions and this kind of stuff.
