This soon afterwards is one thing, the results are still fresh and the change won't affect any subsequent events that have already transpired. It's different from if we'd suddenly start changing the results of NSC 1 to include Escotia's votes four years after it happened.
You are right though, the rule says once the next edition has started. But in the end it falls to rule paragraph 7.3 (each situation should be judged individually) and simply deciding what we all feel most appropriate.
