Well like the title says it is a problem. I know that I am one of the people who used to complain that there was too much activity by the mods before, but instead of the hard censorship we had before, it would be useful to have some mechanism to keep the topics there at least somewhat on topic. I suggest either a) starting to split the topics into new ones by the mods if they get off topic and stay so for a while (like for example splitting the circumcision posts from the cultural topic or the socialism/communism/maoism posts in the political figures topic) or b) have some kind of warning system like other forums and start giving off warning points for going too off topic/flaming and restrict the access to that section to users who have received over a certain amount of warning points (yet not sure if this forum provider allows to set up that kind of system)

Re: Not enough moderation at the political section

I just mentioned the politicians I like there, so you should talk to the people who quoted me and brought it to another issue.

I wouldnt say it's so off-topic. If revolutionaries are being discussed, obviously there has to be some reference to the events that they participated in/caused.

Re: Not enough moderation at the political section

@ Archer - never talked about you
@ MHIY - it got quite off topic with those posts (i can find some link there, but if there hasn't been any political person mentioned while the topic is clearly about it - and things like palestine is not even related to any of the people mentioned earlier?). Basically I am not against off topic if it is either slightly off topic or only for a few posts, but recently majority of posts in many topics have been off topic (and i have also done several of those)

Re: Not enough moderation at the political section

The political section of the board is actually very well controlled, just like all sections of this forum are. All of us are reading each and every post written in that subforum and as soon as we estimate that it is time to react - we are acting and dealing with problem(s) according to the forum rules.

Because people don't see our posts and massive warnings on the board does not mean that we don't send them, and it doesn't mean that there is not enough moderation. All users whose posts are problematic and all users that get sanctioned are aware of that, be sure.

It is good to make suggestions, and I personally always like to see what people think of our work, and what things they have to propose (nothing is perfect and we all make mistakes, so it is always helpful to hear what other people think), but I can't agree that there is not enough moderation at the political section, because that is simply not the case. As I said, each and every situation is closely monitored and followed, and as soon as a reaction is needed, we do react.

Well the past 2 days have shown that for example even Matt has started to troll in that section so I do not find like everything would be ok. Neither I find that the rules for that subsection should be the same as for example the games section.

Re: Not enough moderation at the political section

^^ That is a subjective perception. The situation in the political subforum is, very rarely, good. We all know why - politics (as well as religion) is the most sensitive discussion topic. You can agree or not agree with some of our actions, but the entire situation is very closely followed.

I gave 1 infraction in the pollitical subforum a couple of days ago and moved the post away before anyone could see it. Nobody knows about that except the mod team and the concerned user. And everything that had to be said about that specific topic was done between these two sides only.

Critics are always welcome, but we need to separate our own subjective opinion and the objective standing. If you have any concerns, suggestions or anything, you are always welcome to contact me or any other member of the forum's mod team via PM.

Oh well I guess the only opinion I have left is to act like other people in that forum and just start replying with this quote to everyone:

And PS: I'm not going to say that my opinion is completely objective, but I can say that I have used around 4 forums with political subsections and this here is by far the most spammy out of those.

There is trolling there. How about there's a ban for people, who support bloody dictators.

As much as I cant understand somebody liking a dictator, we must accept that we all have different views on issues :).

Supporting dictators is a perfectly valid (in my opinion kinda stupid - not going to explain here why, because it is the wrong place, but still valid) opinion.

Freedom of speech does not equal speaking about completely anything. There are human values.

"I disapprove of what you say, but I will defend to the death your right to say it"

What you are suggesting here is to ban people for having their own opinion. Since the key concept of this board is to encourage freedom of speech, this cannot be done.

SpZ, You currently can not imagine that it would be in this section, if a team of mods did not work there.

I can honestly say that I do not understand what you are exactly saying.

So why is swearing and insulting people forbidden? Following your logic, isn't this freedom of speech?

I have nothing against swearing and insulting people if it carries some kind of goal (is rooted in ideology) (or well I have, but it is still freedom of speech). I support ACLU who for example has stood for the freedom of speech of neo-nazis, ku klux klan, North American Man/Boy Love Association, Westboro Baptist Church (know as anti war veterans hate group), Nation of Islam, etc...

Well, I don't support swearing or insulting others with swear words. This "Freedom of speech" thing blinds some people into breaking all the rules of normal functioning in the society. And hate speech is banned in most nations.
