At least for me, I don't think so. Mahmood's song is exceptional without me even knowing about his background.
"Soldi" stands on its own quality on ESC stage.

Question for Norwegians: were he not to qualify for the finals, would it affect his popularity in Norway in any way? Or do Norwegians not really care about ESC results? I don't like the song but I dislike when artists lose popularity in their home country because of their Eurovision placement.

I really doubt that he will be less popular if he flops. The fans would say it's cause we didn't say Keiino, regular people will just say Europe got no taste and move on.

I think many Norwegians have a different view of him now than before and he now quite is likeable

Since nobody is going to write this, I'm gonna do it. You are being so toxic, it's unreal. Post after post, even repeating yourself.. All the negativity, bad song, bad singer, Norway NQ and all this negative things are really not cool. If I don't like a certain song I choose not to go to their topic. Simple as that. I don't feel an urge to go and share all this negativity. We get it, you don't like this song, THE PERFECT KEIINO didn't win, but you should move on. I know that everyone has the right to share their opinion, but this is too much. Calm down, go to your favourite's song topic and share the love.

Yeah, of course it is undeniable that he won largely due to his background story.
But this is Eurovision Song Contest and not a reality show. I doubt any ESC commentators will mention his story during the show.

In fact, everybody has a sad backstory of some sort. Tom is gay, Alexandra is not skinny, and Fred is from northern Sami minority, but together as Keiino they created something beautiful and won the popular vote in Eurovision. To be fair, I'm more inclined to buy their story rather than Tix's.

Totally agree! If people voted for the best song there are several others which could have won ahead of TIX. Some people will like the song, of course, but I think it will struggle when the majority of his fans won’t be able to vote for him in May, and when the average Eurovision viewer won’t know (or won’t care) about his story. Hope I’m proven wrong though.
