NORTH WEST ENGLAND
United Kingdom
North West England is one of the twelve regions of the United Kingdom with a population of just over seven million, making it the third most populated region behind only London and South East England. It consists of five counties; Cumbria, Lancashire, Greater Manchester, Merseyside and Cheshire, with the two largest cities - Manchester and Liverpool - being located in the south of the country. Below these two great cities lies the magnificant Cheshire Plains, as far down as the historic Roman city of Chester, whilst in the north lies the amazing holiday resort Blackpool, the spectacular Morecambe Bay and the majestic Lake District, inspiration to the writers William Wordsworth and Beatrix Potter.
Neighbouring the region is Scotland, North East England, Yorkshire, the East Midlands, West Midlands, Wales and to the west the Irish Sea, across which lie the Isle of Man, Northern Ireland and Ireland.
The region's heritage and culture is rich, leading the world in technology and industry, and being the home of some of the world's most famous musicians, most notably The Beetles and Oasis. North West England aims to translate this into points at WorldVision!
