I don't want the orchestra back, but I do want live instruments to be allowed to be used (but not compulsory, only if it's the wish of the act). If forcing an orchestra on all entries, we'll be back to the dark ages. Alot of contemporary or alternative/experimental music would be impossible to be presented with orchestra, so there wouldn't be much contemporary stuff left.

However allowing live instruments would be good, but it shouldn't be forced, but it could definitely help some entries. Orchestra is a relic though imo.

I was reading this and disagreeing with this, because FiK seems to work well with modern songs with a life orchestra, but then I began to think of ethnic and national instruments, like the Duduk in :am: 2010, and I can't imagine the Orchestra of every state broadcaster would be as wide-ranging as to be able to accommodate whatever ethnic instruments that would need to be played. There is the option of the countries that want to use those instruments to bring in their own performers to play alongside the orchestra, but then where does it end? It might be ok for Greece or Cyprus to bring in a bouzouki player, as maybe the SVT Orchestra mightn't have one, but then the claim might be made that ERT or CyBC are sending in a better-trained artist than those that are members of the orchestra. So then TVE or RAI or HRT might then ask to bring in their own flute player, and then BBC or RTÉ or ERR might ask to bring in something as rudimentary as a guitar player. It's lamentable that we can't see the music being played, but I think that the abolition of the orchestra is for the better.

I don't really think FiK works that well with modern music tbh (maybe that explains the lack of contemporary music in their contest and the fact that they always do some quite heavy revamps on their chosen entries?).

I do agree about the ethnic instruments things, bringing back orchestra would really make it harder with those type of entries... I mean I think it's enough that we have juries working against ethnic entries, we don't need any more things working against them.
