:ua: 2009 was a kitchen sink performance... The cog wheels were enough to put a bombastic show, but they had to include the drums, flags... it was too much for me... 'Less is more'! Same for :mt: 2007, poor song, OTT show.

:az: 2008 was visually stunning... the same can't be said about the song!

On a positive note, :ua: 2008 was perfect in every way, :ua: 2004 was innovative at the time!

And :ba: 2006 is a perfect example on how to present a ballad!

I agree with the majority here. Ukraine 2009 was FANTASTIC!

IMO, this is a really good staging (though a bit cheesy, but I forgive that). The camera work just needed to be better to make it look better on screen.

Less is not always more, it all depends on the entry... it was a perfect entry to make an 'over-the-top' performance with.

And anyways, the question was "most spectacular ESC number"? And whether one liked it or not, it's hard to argue that it wasn't spectacular!

Anyways, as I've written in this thread before those days are over now... we won't get any more spectacular performances in ESC with the juries and new approach omboard :( ... Ukraine 2009 was basically the bombastic finally of an ESC era (and it fit well that it was Ukraine that did it because it had become their niche sort of).

Can Bonomo's (:tr: 2012) sailor and ship performance was pretty cool.

It was spectacular but it was just WAY too over the top, I lost interest half-way through... I was like 'are there even more props left?! - in a negative way'

I can't believe I left this one out:

:ro: 2005 is truly something of a pioneer when it comes to bombastic shows. just as the stages themselves were becoming more and more extravagant, in comes this song and transforms the same stage that 38 other acts have performed on into an abandoned industrial warehouse. even to this day i watch it and i can't really believe that it's the same stage that the rest of the contest happened on. and in the final year before pyrotechnics made a massive debut on the contest, the Romanian team include them in such an innovative way, with angle grinders. truly extravagant.
