Morocco will return, when Israel withdraw. That's all, so rather we will not see a Moroccan singer at Eurovision stage in 2014.

That is NOT True, we do not have any problems with Israel, as said before Moroccan can compete alongside Israel and We are NOT like any other Arab country.

Okey, but this is coincidence that Morocco taken part only one time when Israel wasn't participated ?

I live in Morocco and I know the daily life etc. we have Israeli tourists or Israeli's coming to see their families.

our state broadcaster SNRT does not follow activities such as Eurovision or EBU Dance Contest very much but takes part in Meetings but our Public broadcaster 2MTV is pushing for EBU Membership and even stated they want to participate too.

Re: MOROCCO 2014

To be fair the main reason why Maroc withdraw was because of the King unhapiness at the bad result.Besides, i think there was (and still is) a conservatism from some people, mostly from the older generation who weren't unhappy to leave such a contest.

It would be really stupid from Maroc's broadcaster and authorities to enter the contest just because Israel is not there that year knowing there was 99.9% they would be back the next year and the year after that.

But i think there isn't too much want of Maroc in the contest, either from Maroc itself or the EBU.

I think that, even if they have close ties with Europe and respect for it, most people there know they are not europeans and don't want to act like they are. They are very pround of their culture and it's not an european one.

And EBU kindly accept all nations who are european and/or choose to be one when they are located close to Asia too, but is tired of people claiming some countries are not from Europe in the contest. Enough not to try to bring countries from Africa in the contest.

It would have been great to have Morocco back. And which is the problem with Israel...? Silly political things, both countries have GREAT music, I like Arabic and Hebrew songs very much! :p

Morroco is quite tolerant with its jewish community so I don't believe it's a problem in itself. But I don't really believe the television of Morocco (and king Mohammed) are very interisted in being in a European contest as they are not turned towards Europe anymore but more to the whole world and especially USA, declaring itself as a power, just like Turkey which may organise the Olympics in 2020...

Yeah, they're so "tolerant" that the vast majority of its Jewish community had to leave for Israel

Anyways, since when did EBU care about tolerance anyways? As long as the current EBU rules stands that any country (even non-European ones) that are members of the EBU area then they can enter... although I personally think it's time to change those rules finally.

I personally don't want any further non- geographical European expansion of this contest, and while Morocco has indeed taken part once (that entry deserved much better!), it's so long ago and just once that I don't really find it a strong argument enough to bring them back to the contest as the history with the contest is nearly non-existent.

SNRT is 1 of the founders of EBU  previously known as RTM Radio Televidion Maroc in 1956 and Radio Maroc in 1950 so They wont be able to change the european broadcasting area besides SNRT will be hosting an annual EBU event in Marrakech soon :p

Israel did not also participate a few times after that yet Morocco still did not show up. I believe it's to do with something else.

Re: MOROCCO 2014

One country that may like :fr: would be welcome

I'm not sure Morocco would even give some points to France. They are still furious about the colonization, but I know that every year, France and Belgium would give loads of points to Morocco because of their huge diaspora over here IOTAP
