The Belarussian girl is sort of beautiful. I say 'sort of' because in these contests there are rarely any beautiful women. I remember watching the contest when Iceland won and I was like - 'really?'

I know, right? I hate Miss World or any beauty pageant for that matter. It's degrading, judgemental and even more subjective than ESC

Have to agree on that. There were SOME pretty ones, though. Anyway, you can find more beautiful girls just by walking in the street than in any of these beauty contests.

Im still sad that in Russia, this girl was wasted as well, she was finich as 2º RU and was the favorite of many to win the crown :( she could do better in Miss World or in Miss Universe :( Now she is becoming pretty more knowing in Russia, more than the winner :(

Agree, she's far prettier than the winner imo

Degradanting in What..?? Sorry i have to disagree with you, we live in a society where the women take the beauty contests more than an experience and awards, they win publicity, many friends and contracts for work everywhere.... and that's a lot of money ;)

The beauty as Matt said is subjetive, there are girls who look better in person than in pictures, or had better brains than others, but you must see it in your eyes.

It gives people, especially young girls, a wrong impression of what beauty supposed to be. I have no doubt that it gives a lot of girls great exposure but why aren't their any healthy (by that I mean not skinny) people part of the contest? That pretty much applied people with some extra weight are not as pretty as those that look amazing in a swim suit.

We live in a society where we dicated what hot and what's not and it just doesn't set a great example for our kids who already suffer enough from self esteem issues. I know I sound PC but I personally strongly disagree with the pageant concept.

Because it is all about what the majority likes, if the majority decides that a beautiful woman must look like this and this, the definition of 'beauty' is formed. For example, I'm tired of Internet articles about Adele, saying that she's successful even though she's a bit overweight. This 'even though' implies that she should not have been successful with her current weight. How rude!

That's terrible. As they saying goes "Beauty lies in the eyes of the beholder" and I genuinely believe that. Well, I said my piece about beauty pageant. I shall move on and let those who like this event enjoy it!!!

Hmm, actually I disagree. I think if someone is an adult (18+), it's up to them if they want to be in pageants or whatever. However, I'm opposed to the teens and kiddie versions of pageants like these though.

In Sweden, with similar arguments as yours, they decided to stop our "Fröken Sverige" contest (which was our annual selection for Miss Universe and Miss World). I don't remember the last time we had it televised, but probably a decade ago or something like that. However, strangely we're still in these contests.. but our selection is no longer televised and the international pageant is not shown on one of the main channels any longer, rather on some obscure smaller channel like "Star!" or whatever.

Oh, I'm not saying people shouldn't be allowed to be in pageants, that's entirely up to them. All I'm saying is that I strongly disagree with them for the reasons mentioned above.

And don't get me started on those kids version, we have a Reality show here about that as well. Just terribe.

I see. Well, I'm twisted. Because on one hand it's of course logical that beauty is subjective and that a personality can be beautiful aswell.. and all that, on the other hand I don't mind a beauty contest because well... I don't think it's such a bad thing as long as people don't take it too seriously. For me it's entertaining. Everyday life can be sort of grey sometimes, so I don't mind seeing conventionally beautiful people on television

I think the major part of the problem is actually not shows like these, but it's bad parenthood. I've met alot of "confident" imo quite ugly people (from a shallow perspective), and confidence imo doesn't rely on things like these really.

What's the name of that show?
