In the end I got a last minute voting set from Scotland. Thank you Daniel I shall proudly add your flag to my list of voters. So 11 votes and I can announce it wasn't a runaway winner after all. The last couple of voters stopped that from happening. The winner is a song you all had fairly high in your rankings apart from one voter who placed it last. I'm excited to reveal the song. What has won will also shape my entry for the following edition after 62. If it's a ballad you've picked then we're going super loud next time. So the Elliott Smith song you've picked out is "Bottle Up And Explode!" from his 1998 album, "XO". Super excited that you've chosen this one. I totally wasn't expecting it to be honest. I'm besotted with this little pocket rocket of a song. There are many Elliott songs that we don't know the true story behind, this such song being one of them. Fans have ideas it's either about his drug battle, his relationship with his mother, alchoholism, sex even masturbation (). I listen to it simply as a song about repressed anger. When you've had it deep inside of you for so long. Like a fizzy drink that people just keep shaking and eventually that bottle top is flipped off.
I think the production is incredible here. This was Elliott's fourth solo album and his first recorded in the studio. A lot of indie artists lose something when they sign to a major label and hit some snazzy studio for the first time. This is certainly not one of those cases. It's an incredible record and this has gotta be my favourite song from it. Those strings soar so darn high. It's one of those songs that's able to totally engulf as you're listening to it. It's just a shame they don't make 'em like Elliott anymore. Such an extraordinary songwriter with an ear for melody, doing things entirely his own way. No other artist is able to give me a pain in my chest as much as Elliott is able to. His songs take me back to places, to simpler times. I wish I could go back and live those days again.

As you can see, things got tight right at the end. Another voter would have made it really exciting. "Bottle Up And Explode!" did lead this comfortably for quite a while. In a moment of madness it did cross my mind to change the version I was sending to WV to this one, but I don't have that much of a death wish. This is far too raw and trippy, and is more haunting. Loses the grandeur of the studio recording, but boy do I love it!

When I think of my moody teen years, that whole era, I think of Elliott. Listening to his music again, it's as though those days are capsulated in his songs. He makes me think of going into CEX and buying used PS1 games that stunk of smoke, being served by the goth girl in the 10 inch heeled boots. He makes me think of my fail skater period Just stupid little things, memories like that. Late 90 to early 00s were basically Elliott Smith. It kind of hurts listening back to this mans stuff. He may be gone but his music remains.

I need a break from sending artists that mean a crazy amount to me. Next edition WV63 i'm gonna go in with a beautiful song by an artist i've only just discovered. I hope you'll like it. I fell in love with this particular song on the very first listen (It actually made me shed a small tear), and i'm excited for you to hear it. the song will be a totally different vibe to what i've shared with WorldVision beforehand.
I think I put too much of myself into this whole Elliott Smith thingy and it's sort of knocked me out. I count myself lucky this didn't happen a whole lot earlier though. I've had so much luck on my side, and I guess it just ran out. It was inevitable and I was expecting it, as I never feel like i'm treading on safe ground. In fact I only felt quietly confident when I sent Nicole Atkins. Gonna try and take things easier for a while. By easier I mean more carefree. It's just naturally I find myself caring when sending particular artists. In the words of a great Lithuanian songstress "It's so emotionaaaaaaal, it's so emotionaaaaaaaaaaaal". I need to be free. I'll send the fuzzy garage rock recorded into a tin can, i'll send 14 minutes of free jazz, i'll send vaporwave, i'll send the most trippy psychedelic rock I have in my arsenal, i'll send the most iconic limousine driver turned rock star of all time, i'll go through with that bunny threat. I shall become the super hot wreck you all know that I am and want me to be................................. after I win.

I always had a feeling you'd go through with the regular vote as your song has quite a wide appeal. I had the worst draw imaginable (or so I thought. 12th isn't so bad in the end) and I always thought i'd need to be Reju. Kinda close but no cigar. I'm just a bit puzzled over who the Reju qualifier is. I was thinking it would have been between Latvia, Latgale, London and Midwest USA. Turns out it was none of those..... Hmmmm, actually I think I know who it was.
