Malta & Montenegro have +- the same amount of population and are relatively succesful, just pay the fee & send a good artist & Luxembourg would be so fine.
Idk why they don't do it, stubborn people

I believe money isn't relative with population ;)

You have the highest GDP per capita in the world, ofc they will ask more than they ask Malta/Montenegro

Re: LUXEMBOURG 2019

The participation fee depends of the number of TV households and probably of the total amount of all fees if it's a fixed sum.

According to EBU's Code of Finance data Luxembourgian participation fee would be 50-60 000€ approx. Definitely not more than 80k.

+ Add other expenses caused by producing/preparing their entry and funding their delegation (250-300 000€ would be enough if they keep it simple, with internal selection obviously).

Re: LUXEMBOURG 2019

250 000 - 300 000 already seems much TBH
Not necessary everything has to be funded by the broadcaster. For instance our broadcaster pays for the participation fee, our commercial co-broadcaster funds the NF and the winner's preparation costs (the crew's salary, the staging, plane tickets, hotel accommodation for the whole delegation for 2 weeks etc.) and the winner pays for their promo (music video, promo gigs, improvement of the song etc.).

In this particular case they won't have a co-broadcaster so everything depends of RTL which (if they're interested in participation) should search for/negotiate with investors.
The government, private business, performers themselves, RTL profits...

+ ad revenue & televoting revenue partly compensate the participation fee, performers receive additional promo & royalties for their songs.

Re: LUXEMBOURG 2019

The problem here is. If stuff costs 300.000 for Luxembourg and for example around 1,5 million for Netherlands it means 10c per person for NL and 1€ for Luxembourg. And I know it sounds like nothing. But it costs them ten times more. That is why I'm surprised San Marino still lives. Though they probably aren't as rich as Luxembourg per capita?

Maybe San Marino tries to become more famous via Eurovision! Many people don't know that this supersmall country exists. Luxembourg do not need that!

I'm curious, what is the state of the ESC fandom there? Is there a big general population support for returning, or are they fine with only watching it? And is it even broadcasted there? Is there any mainstream media coverage?

Re: LUXEMBOURG 2019

i meant that you guys manage to do it every year with MUCH less resources than luxembourg even accounting for their low channel funding. it was a positive. clearly.

ERT (Greek national broadcaster) has no economic problem at all!!

But i don't believe that the real reasons that Luxembourg is not participating are economical! Last time they participated was back in 1993. Looks like Luxembourg forgot Eurovision and Eurovision forgot Luxembourg!

They have a active OGAE club and a annual Eurovision event held there. I remember seeing some of the Eurovision winners of recent years charting there too.
