I'm in the throws of watching the Eurovision Song Contest 2014 Semi-Final 1. All 16 songs have been performed. Here are my preferences based solely on all of tonight's performances:

Definitely want to qualify: Sweden, Iceland, Russia, Belgium, San Marino, Portugal, The Netherlands, Montenegro, Hungary.
Wouldn't mind qualifying: One of Albania , Ukraine, Moldova
Prefer not to qualify: Armenia, Latvia, Estonia
Definitely don't want to qualify: Azerbaijan

So these are the ones I want to see Saturday night: Sweden, Iceland, Russia, Belgium, San Marino, Portugal, The Netherlands, Montenegro, Hungary, plus one only out of Albania , Ukraine, Moldova.

Sadly the UK doesn't vote, but had the UK been voting, I'd have voted for San Marino, Portugal, Russia and Netherlands.

Whilst we wait for the results here's my report about the songs on my blog

:nl: were the best tonight, and that's all I have to say about that. I really didn't find anything else that stood out, so I guess I'll have to put Iceland and Latvia as my second and third - solid performances there.

András was off at the end of the song, but still not as far off as Aram, whose performance was the worst one of his I've ever heard. He did keep his composure and get the end right, but his voice even broke entirely in the first part. Ukraine's performance was just… boring.
Long story short, the only favourite that had a good performance was Sweden, but their song is downright terrible. Armenia and Hungary can improve their vocals, but Ukraine's performance just doesn't seem to cut it. Sanna was clearly nervous on stage, still doing very well, but I just don't feel anything in the song.
