Holy crap, I only just figured out that Monika Liu was the lyricist of this year's entry. :? That's a bit shocking, as I associated her with electronic music. Here's one of her own new songs, which I think is much better.

Not quite... the deadline to submit applications is December 1st. The selection will take place in January and February over a duration of 8 weeks.

This year's selection will start with separate quarterfinals for two categories of contestants - artists who have entered with their own songs that they will keep, and unattached performers who will play musical chairs with unattached songs like they have for the last couple of years. They will be narrowed down in those categories and only combined in a group semifinal the week before the final. But hey, they're going to go straight into it this time, no covers shows at the beginning!

And all that to come up with acts that are often disappointing (imo) and utterly fake because there is no link between the song and the singer(s). How can they attract true artists with precise artistic visions with such a system? This is just absurd to me. It shouldn't be "we choose the song, then we choose a singer", it's a combination.
I wish I'll live long enough to root for a Lithuanian entry one day

Only half of them! There is now a category for artists to enter with and keep their own songs, probably because LRT doesn't want to entirely admit they were wrong, but too many people complained and they had to make that concession. Based on how the last couple of selections went, I'm already guessing that one of them will win and the category for unattached performers and songs will be completely useless.
I wish I could be excited, and I'm hoping for a more interesting turnout than the last couple of years, but I just realized that realistically the best case scenario is a return to the quality of... the Lithuanian selections of 3+ years ago.
