Invitation for a non-european country ?

Let me explain my idea : what do you think of the EBU giving an invitation to every interested non-european country to take part a year in the contest ? An interested country would show their interest in taking part in the ESC, then the EBU decide and the country would participate one year in the contest, like a guest of honour ? And every year, it would be a different country :)

For example : Australia ? They could realize their dream ! And imagine, they win ! The next contest would be held in th southern hemisphere :)

Australia. Who (except diehard fans) would watch ESC at 3-5AM in the morning? This is a live show after all.
Same goes for hosting.
I would LOVE to include many countries. But it's impossible :(

Very true. It wouldn't work on a worldwide basis unless there was a different show for the performances and results.

I like the idea. I'd invite Australia first, they seem to be most interested in the ESC (outside Europe) and in this country ESC has respectable fanbase. I'd like if 1st guest of honour would be Australia...and then...in future...EBU could invite Brazil, Argentina, South Africa, South Korea, Japan, Tunisia...It would be awesome to see them in the ESC once:D

Not my cup of tea at all.

I'm more the traditional type that sees other stuff in Eurovision than just a music contest, also for practical reasons I'd say no.

Honestly it would just be the beginning of Worldvision and Eurovision would be dead and I want it to stay geographically European basically :/

I've got no problems with listening to music from other parts of the world, I do it quite often as I have a big interest for music generally, but I want Eurovision to stay Eurovision.

Nice idea, but what if the respective continents just have their own editions of ESC? :)

I would love if the contest was open for every country in the world.

Yes yes yes! If it was up to me, I would love to see countries with interesting cultures on ESC. Argentina, Japan, Iran etc. Wouldn't it be great xmusic But on the top of the list there is Australia ofc, they deserve this :)

We watch NBA matches, Emmys, Oscars etc @4-5 am. Why would not anyone do the same? Not as much as European countries but still...

Being from Australia - I don't want to join. Why? Because the only people who watch it are the Europeans (and of course there are A LOT of us!) but what I'm saying is that we will end up giving top points to Greece, Turkey, Serbia, Bosnia etc. every year no matter what they send, because these countries have the largest diaspora, and the rest of the population really have no interest in it tbh - or else they just watch it to laugh at how 'ridiculous' it is. So it's really no different to what happens over there in Europe.

SBS (who broadcasts ESC here) does a mock vote on their website every year. The results this year are so predictable:

1. Ireland
2. Greece
3. Serbia
4. Moldova
5. Hungary and so on.

I don't find this a very fair result because people just vote for their country of origin. Plus you have to consider the time difference. And what could we possibly send to Eurovision anyway? Kylie Minogue?xrofl3- I honestly can think of no one else.

And so what if Australia votes according to its diaspora? Frankly I wouldn't care, Australia at the ESC would be extraordinary! xD. But it's not workable I think. What I would *so* much like to see is for Asiavision to be revived! And organised in November. Imagine, we'd have a giant international musical event every six months!
I'd also wish the Latino-American song contest would be revived.

My wet dream is to see Song Contests appear on each continent, and send their top representatives to the World Contest. Mahaha.
