I'd like to say something about the Danish language - to me it sounds like it's composed of vowels only  Seriously, whenever I hear Danish it sounds like "oe oeo iyu uae ueoia ouea oo ae oeu"

German sounds very... Systematic? If that makes any sense... I've always found that natives speak it a lot softer. I remember when I was learning German in school, all kids would loved to stress their syllables in a harsh manner, and even shout words. German can be a very calm, even introspective (again, if that makes any sense?) when spoken by a native. I do love certain German words though, particularly, 'Schmuck' (jewellery) it sounds like something completely alien to its meaning.

Yeah, I don't know where this comes from

 That's true! In some ranking a few years ago, Polish was ranked the 3rd most difficult European language to learn (after Hungarian and Finnish)

I once had one Polish lesson and gave up. It was too hard for me and I didn't see any sense in learning Polish. I used to know some Polish guys at university who taught me:

Tak tak, a swistak siedzi i zawija je w tebe sreberka....

you say that to someone if you want to fool him, I guess....

I had one term of Czech, that was cool, but I already lost everything....

I also gave up on Spanish, although this language is really easy. I understand a lot of Spanish just by reading it....

But when Spanish people start to talk, I get annoyed. They talking like machine guns, tiqui taca t t t t t t t t t

Spanish is for me the most annoying language to listen to. Portuguese is much better.

Turkish sounds odd... dü dö gü gun yiyor ..... :?

I agree with you, I don't understand why would anyone want to learn Polish? This language is useless outside Poland, and the only reason why someone would want to learn it is because they want to move to Poland.

Spanish machine gun  I never thought of this language that way. I would that "machine gun" languages are the Asian ones, especially Chinese.

I've been to Belgium recently, and Brussels and Flanders are overcrowded with Spanish people. I don't know for what particular reason they go to Belgium, but so be it. I had a bus trail to some Flamish cities, everywhere were the Spanish.... it was horrible! I got so annoyed by the Spanish chitchatting and was so happy when it was all over..... my brain really started to melt.... Spanish is radioactive for me.... :?

the Spanish people are also very loud and always excited....

AdelAdel, you don't understand why would anyone want to learn Polish?

I want :D

Do you want to move to Poland? Because otherwise there's no reason why you should learn this language :p
But if you're so eager, then go ahead and good luck - you'll need it!

True, I see Spanish students with flags everywhere. And let me say about 80% of the Erasmusstudents at my school are Spanish, but we adore them :D! They are fantastic!!! And their botellones are so much fun and cosy (and cheap).

And Spanish is a beautiful language, I'm glad they choose Belgium =).

I started as well, long ago. My school was twinned with a Polish one and a Romanian one and we could choose to learn one of those languages after school. I followed them, but I completely forgot everything. I couldn't pronounce it and writing was extremely complicated.

I think it's very usefull in my neighbourhood in Antwerp. There are som many Polish people here (There are five Polish shops in my street  ) and they don't speak a word Dutch :p.

And how are they able to live in Belgium, then? For me it's just plain stupid - moving to a different country without learning the language first.

^I don't know . I think they just work here, but there is a whole Polish community, so they can rely on eachother I think. It's not that they can't speak Dutch at all, but just a few words.

It's possible that they rely on eachother, just like Asian people in Poland - they only speak Polish when doing official business, but between themselves, they only speak their own language.

There are a lot of Spanish students coming to Belgium indeed. When I was studying in Ghent, they took up whole floors in the big university residences. They do tend to be quite loud, but the most problematic element was the difference in time schedules: Spaniards would eat at 11pm, then go out and party in front of the residence until 2am before going to a bar. This was such a problem that there were articles about it in national newspapers, with students complaining that they weren't getting any sleep!

I see that as an amusing sign of cultural differences.
