Re: GREECE 2016 - Argo
A journey , a path to a destination that dawns . We leave from where it gets dark and we travel to a brighter sun ! Utopian Land is the title of Greece's participation in the 61st Eurovision Song Contest, which will be held in Stockholm from 10 to 14 May.
Argo, a 6member band will perform at the stage of the Ericsson Globe Arena, with lyrics in Greek , English and -for the first time in Pontian dialect , as most members of the band originating from the Black Sea. A composition which is coming from the Pontic music tradition combined with contemporary hip hop, a modern approach about the difficulties of the people , through the eyes of young people who have experienced their own journey.
The song calls the whole world to follow and take part in the dream, which requires effort and perseverance . This is the message we want to send, noting the lyrics phrase : «join with us, for a utopian land».
Constantinos Topouzis will play on stage Pontian lyre, which has been used in the Greek participation 2005 that gave us the victory. Also, Alekos Papadopoulos will play the tabor on stage.
This year's motto of the competition, «Come together», is an invitation to unity. The Greek participation goes along with this concept of the organizers, as our song is with the same pattern, inviting the world to seek together an optimistic future by everyone.
The Argo are Vladimir Sofianidis (song-composition), Christina Lahana (song), Kostas Topouzis (Pontian lyre), Maria Elbrus -Venetikidou (vocals), Elias Kessidis (vocals - percussion) and Alekos Papadopoulos (tabor).
The stage presentation of the group in Stockholm will be taken care of by Maria Liraraki who is a choreographer who also created the stage presentation of the Greek entries in 2007, 2013 and 2015. She was one of the two female dancers in 2004 with Sakis Rouvas and Shake it. ERT’ s commentator will be the famous actor Giorgos Kapoutzidis with Maria Kozakou for a 4th time in a row.
