I think Azal has direct flight from London not so expensive about 500€ (round trip). Turkish, Austiran Airlines and Airbaltic are not direct but not expensive either compare to British Airlines.

Here's an interesting piece of news I saw at news.az:

The Tourism Association of Azerbaijan has announced the suggest cost of the tour package for foreigners.

According to AzTA head Nahid Bagirov, the tour package usually includes the cost of the return ticket, lodging, as well as tickets (including two semifinals and a final).

'As is known, the contest is to start on 22 May and end on 26 May. Taking into account the days of staying in the country from 21 to 27 May and the three-star hotel costs, the tour package will take some AZN 1,250 (EURO 1,100 or $1,600) and more.

This cost is just approximate since, first, a tourist can reserve a high level hotel room, and second, the cost of tickets for the contest is known defined yet', Bagirov said.

AzTA head said that regardless of tourists’ plans, the tour package always includes the cost of two semifinals and the final of Eurovision.

Meanwhile, he said the tickets in Germany cost EUR 300 and the staying took more than EUR 1,100.

EUR 1,100 was pretty much what I was expecting to pay, to be honest; I think the least complicated method to get to Baky may well be buying one of these package trips.

Baku 2012: Relaxing of Azerbaijan visa rules still unlikely for EU citizens

After talks last week in the Azerbaijan capital Baku, the country’s Foreign Minister Mahmud Mammadguliyev, expressed that there are still significant doubts over whether or not visa requirements will be relaxed for citizens of the European Union in time for next year’s Eurovision Song Contest. The contest will be held in May 2012 in the capital Baku.

“I don’t think the visa rules between the European Union and Azerbaijan will be eased by the Eurovision Cong Contest. The mandate to negotiate with Azerbaijan has been entrusted to the Advisory Council of Europe. We are negotiating on this matter with our European partners. But I don’t think that they will end by the time the Eurovision Song Contest is held in Azerbaijan.” said Mammadguliyev.

Whether or not partial exemption, or exemptions for accredited journalists will be possible for the contest, as seen in previous years, is still also unknown. Sticking points to agreement on the relaxing of visa rules appear to be stalled over the country’s longer term relationship with the European Union. Mammadguliyev noted that the issue will be raised again between the two entities in meetings in February 2012.

For further information relating to visa policies for individual countries, fans should refer to their local Azerbaijan embassy, or the website of the Azerbaijan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

MrJadeEwen, visa issue is not going to be a problem at all. There is no final statement because they do not exactly know whether until May 2012 they will be able to issue electronic visas or not. If know there gonna be an easy visa regime for delegations, media representatives, member of fan clubs and all the rest people obtaining tickets to ESC.
