Welcome to the FSC November 2023 Spin-Off , featuring favourite 1990s songs , from all around
the world . Our host city is Mombasa, Kenya , a coastal city in south-eastern Kenya along the
Indian Ocean. The town is known as " the white and blue city " in Kenya . It is the country's oldest
, and 2nd-largest city after Nairobi with a population of about 1.200.000 (3.500.000 in the region)
Mombasa's location on the Indian Ocean made it a historical trading centre , and it has been cont
rolled by many countries because of its strategic location. Kenyan school history books place the
founding of Mombasa as 900 A.D . In the late pre-colonial period , it was the metropolis of a plant
ation society , which became dependent on slave labour, which was based around the ivory trade.
Throughout the early modern period , Mombasa was a key node in the complex, and far reaching
Indian Ocean trading networks. Its key exports then were ivory, millet, sesamum & coconuts. Tod
ay Mombasa is an economic centre, but too a tourism-based town (there are several beautiful be
aches in the region), home to one of the state houses, with a huge port & an international airport.
The founding of Mombasa is associated with two rulers: Mwana Mkisi and Shehe Mvita . Accord
ing to legend , Mwana Mkisi is the original ancestor of Mombasa's oldest lineages within Thenas
hara Taifa (or Twelve Nations) . Mwana Mkisi was a queen from the pre-Islamic era. Shehe Mvita
superseded the dynasty of Mwana Mkisi , & established the first permanent stone mosque there.
Sights in today’s Mombasa: The Holy Ghost Cathedral, Mombasa Anglican Cathedral Church, sev
eral Hindu temples, and Muslim mosques , Taarab music has a prominent local presence , lots of
entertainment spots of all categories from night clubs , bars , hotels, fancy restaurants and many
more, Fort Jesus , Haller Park , Old town, Mombasa Tusks, & visiting the Mama Ngina Waterfront.
Our Host venue is the Mombasa Rocks Music Festival Seafront Venue in Mombasa,
Kenya . It's an intimate venue near the water for the pure enjoyment of music & dance. Mombasa
Rocks Music is an annual music festival in Mombasa , and the neighbouring regions featuring an
array of local and international artists. One of the famous artists at the festival back in 2016 was
Chris Brown. The events take place at the seafront venue in Mombasa and also on its wonderful
beaches in the region especially on the popular Diani beach which has facilities for concerts and
entertainment. They are proud to host this evening’s Spin-Off edition of the Forum Song Contest.
Our wonderful Hosts this evening are:
Bernice Nunah and Maria Wavinya
Bernice Nunah is a top runway & commercial Kenyan model who has graced billboards , and tele
vision screens, besides emerging near the top in the Miss World Kenya beauty pageant . She has
been working as a model with top fashion houses and brands , both local , and international. She
is very well known, in the industry . She is proud to co-host this evening’s Spin-Off edition of FSC.
Maria Wavinya is a Kenyan model & beauty pageant titleholder who was crowned Miss World Ke
nya 2019. She also participated in Miss Tourism Nyandarua in May. She is pursuing a diploma in
International Relation & Diplomacy , and hopes to be an ambassador of her country one day. She
is very well known, in the industry . She is proud to co-host this evening’s Spin-Off edition of FSC.
