It will almost feel tainted or dirty somehow imo. Like we all accept Moldovas entry but we don't accept the behind the scenes actions and its tainted because of it. Its honestly the right thing to do and invite them back for 2021. Im sure many of these artists have invested a lot of their own money in it also; not to mention time. All of it gone to waste.

That's the thing here that makes it so heartbreaking. Many of the artists have invested so much, especially those who had to prepare for national selections. The time, energy and money they spent would all have been for nothing. Music videos, staging, promotion, traveling. It all costs a lot, and that's just the material things. Mentally it will probably cost them all a lot more. I can't imagine how it must feel right now.

I worry as well about the smaller countries, and the less financially comfortable broadcasters who I fear might already be out of pocket under the circumstances they now face. So much is going to waste. It's really very sad.

Honestly, just like all the people involved in ESC: artists, song writers, producers, etc. MOST OF THE PEOPLE in the world are changing their plans if not cancelling at all, losing their jobs, business, and most important losing their family members... and I see eurofans having a tantrum because an event is cancelled.
I do feel it for all of them involved and all the job and effort put in their participation for ESC 2020, my empathy goes for them too, but seeing what is going on in the world right now, unfortunately many of us had to do exceptional decisions. It is time of uncertaintity in all matters, so excercising what EBU should or shouldn’t do for next year is just senseless.
Nobody is disrespecting the things that are happening in the world wide now, some or many of these might actually happen to us personally, how could you know?
This is a place where we share our passion for the ESC so of course we will moan about these devastating news. I am sure none of us needs a moral compass advice to see it only being a small part of our lifes and the world but it still sucks.

I am pretty sure EBU will not involve itself into how countries will select their songs and artists for 2021... I believe they will give opportunity to go with the same artists, even with the same songs, but they will give free hands to each broadcaster. That probably means we will not see many of those who were selected for 2020.

Exactly. Imagine if the Reference Group decides to change the songs so performers who have already sacrificed their current projects, time & money will be asked to do this again.

I did not particularly mean at this forum but in social media. I have read already disgusting comments on the ESC FB page and twitter.
Not lecturing anyone how to empathise with other human beings suffering right now much more than a cancellation of their favourite show.

But why couldn't it be postponed to, let's say, september????!?!
Because nobody is certain yet how long this crisis will affect Europe and its economy. Things might take their time until the organization of a logical master challenge as ESC will be smooth again.
I just wonder if there will be ANY possibility to hold an unofficial ESC where all participants peform in a small studio or even at their homes! Maybe I am too romantic and naive with that thought but I am an artist and the big project I was working on just got cancelled like everything in my branche. But I need to continue to work in my quarantaine now because I would turn crazy without it. Now I am searching for ways to present or develop it nevertheless even if I will not get any money out of it (well, something as an artist you're used to). Maybe it is the same for the singers / composers etc. and they want the contest to be organised no matter what even in a different way than originally expected. They prepared for this competition and put a lot of work into to plus the most imporant piece of that artwork already exists: A finished and released song.
It could even be internet or airplay only - but please give as any element of joy this contest could still give in the healthiest and safe way as possible.

I think that we should have the same songs as an option: countries have chance to change if they wish, but the usual rule should be suspended. It's a real shame and I hope we can get some form of virtual ESC sorted, even if it's just a big LL and a 41 song final

The good thing is, ever Tom Leeb gets selected again and the usual rules apply, Redde-Amiel can't have her 'ultimate Eurovision winner' song!

ESC 2020 should be done with music videos and the winner should get the honorable mention of 'winner of ESC 2020', even if Rotterdam gets to host 2021 edition

I can’t imagine they’ll let some artists compete with their old song while other delegations appoint new artists and songs. It’ll have to be an even playing field.

But MVs are as unfair as live performances on home soil. And it would mean the winning country wouldn't be able to host. :(

@EscGeek Possibly I'm the most happiest ESC fan in the world on this moment.

Now I hope that the most countries will not confirm 2020 selected participants for ESC 2021.

easy, plain and simple :

* Each 2020 artists can participate in 2021 with the same song or a new one. If the artist wants to stay, the country has to be present in 2021.
* Each country from a non-returning artist can decide if the country wants to participate in 2021 or not.
* Each non participating country from 2020 should be allowed to participate in 2021 if they'd like to.

We can keep The Roop and Dadi (with the same songs) and Tom Leeb can mysteriously decide to not participate in 2021 leading FTV to choose a new representative.

EDIT : easy solution for Melfest (and alikes)

hold a 2021 edition and make a live voting between Melfest 2020 and 2021winners. The winner of this mega superfinal goes to ESC2021
