Sorry to disagree, but they absolutely butchered the high notes by the end. In my opinion it is in fact the production, more specifically I think there could be some issue with their earpieces not being loud enough.

I think you are correct here. If someone has to sing a note and you start off at the wrong point you quickly bend up or down. If that doesn't happen they're usually not hearing well and are just gambling on getting the pitch right. I won't hold it against them.
