That same tabloid wrote yesterday he punched the woman in the face. This is not a credible source.

Also the police confirmed Joost is free to leave the country.
Their articles in Eurovision timeline say "he's been violent towards a woman" without being specific.

Confirmed where? Do you have a link by chance? If he's free to go then the case is closed, the man is innocent and it should be in all news xdance2

I have a theory, ain't perfect, but here's the thing: since now semis are televote only, most of the songs that make it through are televote friendly.

Shocking, I know, BUT there's another thing: while we used to have like 3 or maybe 4 jury friendly songs making it through with the old system, now usually is one or two, so the few they make it to the final benefit enormly from the jury votes, since there's more consensus and less division of the entries.

We kinda saw that already last year with Loreen, who was overwhelmingly supported by the juries, while losing the televote, but now here's an even more extreme version of it: Nemo crushed the jury vote, but got a 5th place with the public. Is that the largest dissonance in terms of final ranks? We have seen winners who failed to win the audience first place before, but 5th place, while is still good and 200+ points aren't something to be ashamed of, shows the gap is there.

Will the gap wide even more? IDK, but now there's a new record and if we find another divisive year... it might be broken again.

Loreen and Nemo stand alone. I checked this last year and Zelmerlow was also notably dissonant. After that I think it was Duncan, but it's well within a normal range at that point, nothing spectacular, just a close call where the juries just favored one over the other. An outlyer like Zelmerlow can be expected when there is something very special about the entry and he had a fantastic staging concept, so it kind of checks out. So yeah we do live in very odd times with Loreen and Nemo, I can confirm that.

Your hypothesis then: I don't think this is it. If you look at the results in semis when juries still voted they largely agreed with the televote anyway. We can sort of know this ourselves, usually there are about 8 entries where we kind of know they are just a better package than others and about 3-5 are just not going to make it. The juries don't suddenly have wildly differing opinions, it's all about the few entries that fall in this twilight zone around place 10. As such the expected value in terms of 'jury-friendly songs' qualifying will have dropped by only about 1 per edition, not 3 or 4. This is not going to be sufficient to explain the changes in the voting behavior of the juries, it would give a minor effect only. Most parsimonious theory would be direct corruption by EBU, but it's hard to believe as it is highly immoral. I don't have a good explanation.

So, the EBU has not adjusted the rank from the jury show, so the votes for :nl: can be calculated as some other countries got 10 points but are listed "3rd" by a countries juries. 2nd is missing...
So, apparently this is the jury vote for the Dutch;

:it: :lu: 10p > :nl:
:dk: :sm: 8p> :nl:
:at: 7p> :nl:
:rs: 5p> :nl:
:lv::ch: 3p> :nl:
:be: :mt: :md: :pl: >1p

:nl: got 58 points in the jury show, finishing 12th in the jury vote.
If they would've gotten the same kind of televoting as in the semifinal, rough estimation, it would have been around 270-290 points. Placing them around 6th place in total points.

It’s so hard to identify tendencies in the voting. It’s possible, but complex.

Take the ballads. Portugal got lots of votes from the juries and very few in the televote. The well-known phenomenon. But then we have Latvia: Also a slow song, but this one got around just as many votes from the televoters as from the juries. Third example: Serbia. Serbia received a good amount of votes from the televote too, but when you look at where the votes came from, almost half of them came from the neighbouring Balkan countries. Same with Slovenia. Several factors are mixed together, and they blur the conclusions.

What I do see clearly though, is that a change of the jury system would make a better and more fair show. The juries should return to the semi-finals, but their impact should only be at 30 percent. The same in the final. In that way, the juries would still be able to ensure a certain quality among the best entries, but the juries’ tendency of favouring the slow ballads would have less influence. It would also mean that for instance this year Switzerland would not have won. Israel would improve a couple of places but not win. A good Eurovision result in my opinion.

I don’t like the concept of having very different criteria in the two rounds. It creates too many scenarios like with Finland’s and Austria’s entries this year - fairly good televote, terrible jury vote.

If the allegations weren't strong enough to hold him in Sweden, then clearly it was nothing serious.

Since it wasn’t a big crime he had committed, it couldn’t be any different. The police had collected the evidence needed. So he was free to go. He can still get a conviction (but I can’t imagine he will get a prison sentence).

Yeah that's a really fair point. It sets a dangerous precedent that it's apparently possible to accuse an artist of some wrongdoing to get them DQ because they need to be investigated. Could get nasty very fast
That’s how things work in Sweden. Just see how MeToo took place there. Nothing compares to it.

If Klein took her camera and damaged it, I’m not against the DQ. But I would still say you could argue for letting him perform - the question would then be how to sanction him beyond the criminal case. I don’t think they could retract points from his score. 😉

Few final thoughts from me about the Grand Final, if I may...

Regarding my prediction - the BIGGEST blunder for me was Portugal... It seems I put them WAY too low in my ranking. Yet, not sad at all they reached so high!

I guess my biggest SURPRISE was Norway. So NOT deserved place in the end...

Messed up with Germany and Austria as well. Put Germany way too low and Austria way too high in my prediction. HAPPY for Germany (not in my favorites list though), but hoped better for Austria...
And UK - how THE HELL you managed that staging??? MIND BLOWING!

Yeah... Regarding my country, ESTONIA - not overly surprised, not overly disappointed. Hoped maybe a slightly better place in the Final (AT LEAST, not to be the last among the Baltic countries), but... I guess we did our best and the result was more or less predicted a while ago, so... No hard feelings about that whatsoever.

For the conclusion - SWEDEN gave us 3 VERY NICE shows this week, good interval acts, good jokes! UNFORTUNATELY, 3 quarters of the honey pot was ruined with 1 quarter of tar. The Netherlands situation will be HARD to digest for years to come... the MOST unheard of and nasty issue. I'm SO sorry for JOOST and all the NL/ESC fans...

But AT LEAST for me - NEMO saved the day!

I'm VERY HAPPY for THEM and VERY HAPPY for Switzerland! CAN'T WAIT for the next season to begin!

CHEERS to ALL and see you in a little while! xcheers

I enjoyed the Estonia song the most. I realy don’t get why it didn’t get more votes. It was my favorite song this year!

I like men with the deep (low) singing voices.

In 2018 there was a song “higher ground” from Danmark I think that was my favorite who also had these deep low voices.

I loved Estonia too and also Higher Ground. I was just glad that Estonia qualified tbh, and the guys looked like they were having great fun. I expected it wouldn't garner much support in the final.
