The last ESC that I watched in Europe. I liked the winner, the whole top3, the hosts, the postcards, the songs were pretty good! :) I voted for Greece in the semi and in the final, while my distant cousin in Greece voted for Tose in exchange. Greece later got 7 points both in the semi and in the final. :D
I didn't really like the Albanian song, it was just okay. I loved the Macedonian song too (especially the Mk-version. The English one was good too though). I did like Spain, Portugal and Malta though! Belgium was excellent, I also liked Croatia, Bosnia (yeah guilty pleasure), France and Iceland. Sweden, Poland and Turkey were good too!
Good times! :D

Fond memories of 2004 xheart – probably the first year when I listened to the songs as soon as they were selected. Of course, the (re)introduction of the semifinal was a great success, although it was full of mediocre songs; thankfully most of the crap was filtered out (in my opinion).

:1: ::cs #1 of 2004, #1 of the decade, well among my top 5 Eurovision songs ever. Professional presentation, spot on vocals, for 3 minutes I felt transported to Belgrade, the traditional music makes it sound authentic, sincere... it truly deserved its placing although I acknowledge Ukraine was a well-deserved winner.
:2: :is: so maybe Jonsi shouted a bit too much but this ballad was well-crafted, sadly it got completely lost in the voting!
:3: :al: Chirpy debut, happy, bouncy and still sounds great today. They haven’t been close to replicate another song I truly love from them!
:4: :cy: Sounds amazing on record, and I think she has done a good job of it live as well as I imagine it’s a very difficult song to sing! Surprised this finished as high as 5th as I don’t think it’s televote-friendly, but it was a well-deserved placing!
:5: :tr: Quite what nobody expected from Turkey, it couldn’t have been more different than Sertab the year before! Insanely catchy and toe-tapping!! UP, I WANNA BRING YOU UP!!

Other songs I’d rate in my top 10:

:ua:
:be:
:se:
:ro: (although any hopes were destroyed with the god-awful live performance, clothes, her mistake while singing + being sandwiched between two favourites)
:ru: (another car crash of a vocal performance, plus the song sounded like it was cut short but I liked it, reminds me of Texas’ ‘Summer Son’. I’d sack the choreographer though, and I still ask what made her angry towards the end of the performance)

I hate Austria (boring to dizzy heights), Ireland (same), Switzerland (childish), Slovenia (EUGH) and Monaco (so unremarkable, so dated)
