Re: Country Randomiser Spin-Off - Confirmation DDL 11/06

I knew somebody will think they are oh so witty and send musically obscure ''country''. It's not just about finding any song, but finding a song you'll actually like. I'll join in and if I do receive something along the lines of Antarctica I'll try my best to find a song I enjoy. If I fail to do so, well, I'm out.

Of course there shouldn't be any restrictions for any countries.

Personally I'd love to accept a challenge and go searching for something from Antarctica or Lesotho rather than some western countries' music-scene I'm familiar with already.

Btw dogmeat showed me an article about music in Antarctica, so this is very doable :)

We do all realize that South Georgia and the South Sandwich Islands has a population of 30 right?

Better hope there's a singer among those 30 people....

Edit: Or maybe it means 30 thousand....it's not very clear on Wikipedia.

Perhaps we should say it's the suggester's responsibility to provide assistance with their suggested country, if it turns out to be difficult for the person who gets allocated to it? In a way of saying "Yes, you can and should suggest exotic places, but only if you yourself would be able to manage it as well"

N/B: I didn't say that everyone must help each other :p Of course, people should be searching for themselves, and the majority of people will probably be fine doing so :D
This scenario is only for if someone is struggling terribly with their allocated country, on the point of withdrawal (which would be uberlame btw, if you think you're going to withdraw, I suggest you don't enter... caused all sorts of problems back in the Robbery spinoff >.>). In that case, the suggester should take responsibility for the country they suggested and show that it's possible (as dogmeat did just above).

I believe the key thing to this spinoff is being open-minded about exploring new music, and not being toooo picky about whetehr it's a song you love enough or not :p

lolwut Did it come down to your argument being that we should send a song even if we don't like it? Isn't this exactly the opposite of what NSC is supposed to be?
And I believe that you still have a PM to reply to. =P

Hehe, I picked the word "love" over "like" for a reason :p
What I mean is, for main NSC, the usual idea is that the songs we send are among our absolute favourites.
For this spinoff here though, I suggest that we relax our criteria for the song we send; perhaps you'll send a song that you'd only give 1 point to... or even one you'd only rate "woog-" or "bwoog+". Still a song you like though, but not one you have to love :p
I also think people should give songs for this spinoff "the benefit of the doubt", if a song doesn't hit you instantly, it can still grow on you :D It's all about the discovery ;)

In fact, I'm surprised we didn't get many similar complaints in the Artist Randomiser spinoff, where the scope was even more limited

And yes, sorry about the PM  I'll definitely get it sorted before I leave Sweden xD

Yeah well I was referring to the case if we can't find a song we just like. Confirmation period is not long enough to wait for a song to grow on you.

That's the pessimistic viewpoint though right?
Surely if we all open our minds we can see the positive qualities of any song xD

But yes, you have a point, which is why I stress the importance of country suggesters taking responsibility to make sure their music scene has at least some variety to cater for different tastes :p

There are alternative solutions though. One of them being Zombira's solution in the Randomiser spinoff...... (I don't recommend it though xD)
Another possibility is to just enter with the song you don't necessarily like that much. This is infinitely better than giving up and withdrawing, because you don't mess up the spinoff, and you can still hear the songs from the other nations :D We have to remember, that the song we choose for ourself is only 50% of any NSC edition :p

It's not pessimistic at all. At one point I actually tried to find something good in every song I heard. It's impossible. If we were all able to ''open our minds'' and be able to see positive qualities of any song that would greatly change a lot of things in both NSC and real-life. I'm not being pessimistic, you are being too optimistic.

I've just checked, Antarctica does indeed have a flag!!!! :D
ANTA0001.GIF

It's not an official flag. Antartica doesn't have an official flag as it's not an official nation.

There's also this flag for Antartica:
