I am watching Eurovision since 2001 so:

2001 - not a bad year but :ro: wasn't in, so no excitment for me
2002 - the most horrible year for me. I still have nightmares that :mt: didn't win :((
2003 - good year overall
2004 - amazing year. The only year when my absolute favourite won.
2005 - ok year
2006 - great songs
2007 - bad year
2008 - great year, a lot of good songs
2009 - ok year, is just that the winner was to predictable
2010 - ok year, but I would've liked :hr: in the Final
2011 - the best year ever; it had Maja Keuc xheart
2012 - the best concept and organisation ever but bad quality of the songs
2013 - It had Zlata xheart and some other good songs, but I really dislike the winner

1991 will always be my number one favorite year. I enjoy 19/22 songs that year. Can't say that for any other year.

1990 and 1996 are tied second for me. Fantastic years both of them. 1972 comes in third.

1995 was the best ESC-year for me

It had some great songs which I loved, a decent overall standard, and all the following 4 songs were worthy of victory in my eyes (they were that good imo!):

:hr: Magazin & Lidija - Nostalgija
:il: Liora - Amen
:se: Jan Johansen - Se På Mig
 Secret Garden - Nocturne

Other great ESC-years were: 1996, 1997, 2001, 2007 and 2009.

I don't understand why everyone hates 2011. This is pretty nice year though.

It would be really hard for me to come up with an exact top, but I'll share with you a few ones I enjoy in chronological order: 1959, 1963, 1966, 1969, 1971, 1979, 1981, 1983, 1989, 1993, 1994, 1996, 1998, 2003, 2005, 2007. I like most of the recent ones, but I have a harder time deciding, as there are more songs and more nights.

Not sure if I can pick one out of the contests I've watched live on tv (those from 1993 onwards). Instead I'm going to pick 1983.

I discovered old ESC songs in a piecemeal fashion. I didn't watch whole contests, but each time I stumbled upon a 1983 song on youtube I found something I liked. I think I started by looking up Spain and Turkey, when I read Nul Points by Tim Moore. 1983 has the best nul pointers of all time - one for being a great song, the other for being ESC's best ever bad song.

I think next I found Corinne Hermes's winner. It's not my favourite winner, but I quite like it. I found Israel and Yugoslavia at about the same time and loved those much more, somehow missing out on Carola at the time.

I love the staging too. A weird stage shape, but it being so small and showing off the orchestra so much makes it seem more like a concert than a tv show. I also like how different acts use different bits of the stage.

Then there's our underrated British entry. I looked it up more out of curiosity to see Carrie Grant before she was famous, but out of all the twee smiley groups we sent in the early 80s this was one of the best. The song certainly knocks spots off Love Enough For Two or One Step Further. Maybe I'm Never Giving Up is not quite as good as good as Making Your Mind Up, but I think it holds up a little better in 2013.

Add in Ami Aspelund from Finland, Hoffmann & Hoffmann from Germany, Pas De Deux from Belgium with others I discovered through the big tournament and this was a no-brainer to be the first old ESC I watched in full.
