has always been one of my faves, surprised to see the oldest entry that was voted before I cast my votes was 1996. :? Do people really have no idea of older contests? I've voted for 1968, 1969, 1971, 1972, 1979, 1981, 1982, 1986, 1988, 1989, 1990, 1996, 1997, 1998, 2003, 2004, 2007, 2008 & 2010.

^ I'm starting to think some people don't care about the contest before the 2000s. Or at least they don't care to find out about it. Sad really. I've always loved discovering songs from the years before I started watching. I have more favorites from the '50s, '60s, '70s, '80s and '90s than the '00s.


Anywho, Portugal is such a fickle country for me. Sometimes, once in a blue moon, they send fantastic entries, but most of the time they're extremely bland or just weird.


1988, 1989, 1990, 1991, 1992, 1993, 1996 and 2009 are fantastic!

Unfortunately, I accidentally hit the voting button before I ticked all of them off.

And you're right guys. This generation in general doesn't care about good music from the past. Just easy and contemporary music.

96, there is a reason it's the most successful Portuguese entry to date. Overall Portugal's entries haven't been my cup of cake but they have shown a lot of improvement since the introduction of the 2 semi system in 2008 (except 2011).

Complete update of my opinions about Portuguese songs : ('THE BIG TOURNAMENT' helped me with this task )

My favourite Portuguese entries:

- Very good entries, part of my all-time favourite eurovision entries

1971, 1972, 1976, 1980, 1989, 1991, 1996


- Good entries I also like a lot

1969, 1984, 1990, 1993, 1994, 2009, 2010


- OK - Category: 'liking songs': 1979, 1983, 1998, 2008 (too overrated, by the way), and 2012


- Weakest entries that I can't stand: NONO

1981, 1982, 1985, 1988, 1992, 1999, 2004


- Absolutely horrible, embarrassing level

1977, 1978, 2006, 2011

- All the others I think are either average or bad, all depends.

My favorite Portuguese entry is "Lusitana Paixao" from Dulce Pontes back in 1991. My second-favorite is "Senhora Do Mar (Negras Aguas)" from Vania Fernandez in 2008. I hate the Portuguese entry of 2011...It's horrible!

And yes, 'Lusitana Paixão' is beautiful , much better than 'Senhora do Mar'.

Unfortunately I don't know them all, but from those I know my favourites are:

1) Lúcia Moniz - "O meu coração não tem cor" - my fav Portuguese entry ever
2) Vânia Fernandes - "Senhora do mar" - I love this song and Vania's magnificent voice
3) Da Vinci - "Conquistador" - still listen to it!!! Great song
4) Célia Lawson - "Antes do adeus" - one of the biggest unfair verdicts ever I think, I don't understand how even Spanish jury failed to give it a single point. Null point - a total missunderstanding.
5) Filipa Sousa "Vida Minha" - yet another one very underrated entry from Portugal I was so sad Filipa didn't make to final
6) Flor-de-Lis - "Todas as ruas do amor"- a feel-good song!
7) Rita Guerra - "Deixa-me sonhar (Só mais uma vez)" - great ballad!
What else can I say... Portugal is criminally underrated

1) I agree it's simply the best!!

2) Too overrated by most and I wouldn't even rank it in a top 15 to 20 of the best Portuguese songs ever, I suppose

3) Yes, a great song that deserves being your fave!! one of the most popular Portuguese entries ever here in Portugal

4) Oh no! Boring song and I really can't stand the backing singers! Deserved a bit more than 0 though!

5) A sweet song that I like a lot. Not one of my faves, but I understand who considers this one to be a fave!

6) Definitely a great song! Sweet, good and unique! We should have more like this in the contest, actually!

7) Rita is a really great singer. But the song is nothing but average. And I'd say average -

Green - Agree
Red - don't agree
Blue - Neutral
