I keep reading comments under the song that this is not "Eurovision-y enough". What exactly did people expect from Hooverphonic? To lose their authenticity and buy a Swedish ballad, like some other country? No thanks, been there done that. I really appreciate that "Release Me" could've been clearly one of their singles and not just one of those over polished songs specially made for Eurovision.
I feel you. People who say that are idiots living in the past usually.

I mean there are certain aspects that you just need to have for Eurovision, because you need to pack a good punch in 3 minutes and that involves making some choices on conciseness and efficiency, but beyond that pretty much anything goes nowadays.

I heard it 3 times already but I can't remember the chorus. However I get the vibes that the song will be a grower and I'll be a hard stan during the Post-Eurovision Depression period, but it'll be too late.

Pure Hoovephonic. Chill and beautiful.

It's a relief to have bands of this prestige at the festival and knowing they're that faithful to their essence and fans.

Thank you Hooverphonic. They probably won't understand you, but you're great.

While I get this song is very much their sound, but most of the ESC fans don't care whether the artists release their songs that are true to their sound. All they want is a song that register with them. While I say this song is very polished (in line with Belgium's past entries), but there is somewhat lacking in this song and it will probably gives off the vibes to the casual ESC fan that Belgium has yet again decide to release another James Bond theme song (ie. lack of originality).

For me now, the song is still meh. It may improve, it may not. (Side track: "Wake Up" was meh for me during the first couple of listens, but it grew tremendously, it was my personal no. 1 for quite sometime before the tragic staging kills it. Having said that, it is still in my top 5 tracks of 2019's edition).

obviously wonderful. they did what they know, and didn't go for something eurovision-y, which is the right choice always. this is not a hard song to stage and juries will be very happy to reward this. 10 points, might become a 12 at any point.

It's alright. It's a good song, but I cannot get behind the James Bond theme they got going there, I just can't. But it's better than France's entry, that's for sure. I'll give it a 6 for now

Now let´s move on to :be:.

I have to admit that I didn´t know Hooverphonic when they were announced as the Belgian represantatives, but after some research I came to the conclusion that I really like their music and was very excited about their ESC entry.

When I listened to "Release Me" for the first time I wasn´t disappointed but maybe a little underwhelmed since I expected something like "Romantic" or "Horrible Person" and found it a bit too calm. But already at the second listening I really fell in love with this song!! It has a wonderful melancholic atmosphere and the voice of Luka fits perfectly. I don´t know how this will do in Rotterdam, but I can already say that I´ll keep listening to this song after the contest. xmusic

All in all this is my personal favourite at the moment, even narrowly ahead of :it:. I really love it and give it therefore very deserved :12:!! xheartxup

This song has nice instrumentation, sounds modern while throwing vintage influences. It doesn't go offensive in my ear and will be a fit in any movie OST. I really like the mood of the song, too. Probably going to be something I listen too when I stroll in the night. However, this might fall a bit flat as it progresses, because it doesn't have any remarkable ups-and-downs. I think it's eligible to be categorized as a 'narrative' song, and not all people really like narrative songs.

My concern is that it's a kind of 'afternoon mood/evening mood' kind of song, like Hildur Vala's Fellibylur of this year's Songvakeppnin. Afternoon songs are rarely suitable on big stages. These kind of songs might be 'easy' to stage but not easy to fill a room with. It really depends on how the presentation/staging will project the personality of the song. It could be a noir film setting, or no LED screens with very minimal lighting, but I would love if there were enough small lighting details that can add into the narrative nature of the song. I'm really anticipated for the staging.

For now, it's a :10: from me.

What a non event, boring and I dont like her voice either. Belgium always getting fan love for their mid efforts, so not surprised here either. Sounds very 13th place in semi to me.

As others have pointed out, this song has a very James Bond-feel about it (could almost have been a Bond-song imo). As a Bond-fan myself I am not displeased. Nice song, currently I would give it a 7 but it could grow on me further when performed live.

Not exactly winning material but perhaps the quality of the production and a strong staging concept will be enough to put them within qualifying contention. Just too monotonous and flat. I preferred Sennek.

This can be big favorite if they utilise those orchestral elements to full use..
The chorus is a bit underwhelming though, like you wanted something to happen but nothing ever happens.

With bad staging, this song might not make it to finals.

Whos even called it for not being Eurovision enough though? I've just scanned the comments and unless i missed it the closest we've come is someone calling it a Belgian ESC song. 🙄 which... that is exactly what it is. Lets not pretend Belgium aren't stuck in the same wheel of repetition like Portugal because they did well that 1 time. I've listened again when I'm less pissed off, its not bad and quite a decent effort but still far from my taste and i still find it overly repetitive and a very unimaginative choice for Belgium. But its not a bad effort by any means.

Even though, I, right now think this isn't the best song. This should grow slowly on us, similar to The Netherlands in 2014. It will do way better, than you are now expecting, cause I believe this band have some really good artists!

This is such a strange comment to make since most of us seem to award the song 6 to 10 points which I would describe as average to positive reviews but a hype?
It will definitely find its fans but it doesn't scream #1, Fanwank or OGAE favourite to me.

Well it goes without saying it was always going to have its fans. Especially when you consider the band, there was always a section of the fandom who were gonna be living for this and others that were not. I wouldn't say its a overhyped fanwank. Yet
