I don't have a first good impression, after see some of his lives, average voice i would say.

And i never liked "City of Light" so i hope he will not give us a carbon copy of this song.

Yes, he is cute, so at worst i will shut down sound and just watch him :p

Eliot for Belgium…hmmm..what can I say..it is not that promising, but it can surprise of course, I hope it will..
I’m afraid I won’t like ESC 2019 as much as 2018, it develops quite bad for me..but we still have a lot to experience..so we will see.. :)

To be honest, I'm not excited about the singer. Let's just wait for the song to draw our conclusions!

Very much same here. I have the feeling that 2018 was far a better year in ESC. For now, I don't have many songs for this year that I really feel passionate about. The only section I love very, very much is Hungary … and with my luck, a song will be send there to ESC that I don't like.

Re: BELGIUM 2019 - Eliot

Belgium's sixth singer in seven years that was on The Voice? Good grief. When will these awful karaoke shows finally die out?

I don't know what to make of this choice. I guess it's just best to leave it at that. City Lights itself wasn't a bad song. I just couldn't stand it's presentation and vocals (I know many disagree). It's a shame the one recent entry from Belgium I enjoyed missed the final last year. I'll keep an open mind for Eliot even if this announcement isn't exciting me at all. Belgium has a nice track record lately and I feel like they want to win (even last year I was getting that vibe from them despite the shock outcome).

To be quite honest with you, I didn't expect Sennek to qualify after seeing *that* performance. It was bad, like really bad. I mean, like, the VRT is known for screwing things up!

I do think you're right, though. Belgium wants to win. I want Belgium to win as well, because we might finally have Eurovision in Antwerp and that would be amazing! Especially since the venue is like 20 minutes away from where I live :D :D

To be honest I was kind of living for the awkwardness of Sennek's performance. It was... strange staging somehow, despite actually the whole idea being very basic, just to have her walking up and down the runway. Just something about Sennek made the idea come off as peculiar. I can see why people didn't like it, and it perhaps cost her the final. It's unfortunate because I think a lot went into that entry, and as I said before, I was getting vibes that Belgium was thinking about a win with it. So much effort went into the official video, and it seemed a very careful and precise song choice.

I think Belgium will win sooner than later. Whether I like the songs or not, the quality recently has been consistently high. I think you've got to nail both the song and performance and then it's all yours.

Re: BELGIUM 2019 - Eliot

Nothing original under the sun but Belgium is actually mixing what worked before : A singer which has a close styling to Loic and a very quiet/down to earth personality like him AND the same composer as City Lights with the singer's voice that is closer to Blanche than Loic. What I'm seeing right now is :

* Belgium will qualify and end top 10 /5 it's almost certain imho (based on the fact Eliot will have Loic's aura and a city lights-like song)

now the big question is : Is RTBF doing everything they can do to win the whole thing with a composer that already experienced ESC and knows what to do and what to avoid to have a better result ?

It could end both ways in my opinion :

1 They excel to bring the best from what they know about the contest and the songwriting these past years and we have our first contender
2 They're trying too hard to make the same recipe works for a second/third time (third time's a charm ?) and end up loosing big time cause they can't reproduce the magic they didn't know they had the first/two times. And when you know you have the magic, it's mostly the time you mess up with it.

my 2 cents. I'll be more Belgian than French this ESC year I guess :p

you thought THAT staging wanted to win? the song definitely did but the entire thing went off the rails at some point and they just gave up on it because no channel not named TVE would do that with result expectations. i agree with your later post that the performance has a strange pull to it but that's entirely on sennek and her unique style. i think RTBF threw the towel for whatever reason.

Actually it was the VRT (Flemish broadcast) in charge in 2018. It shows. No way RTBF would've allowed Sennek to wear *that* dress and deliver that 'performance'!

They blindly trusted the guy who staged "Calm After The Storm" and "What's The Pressure"... but also "Do It For Your Lover", "Outlaw In 'Em" and "Walk Along" :? That was their biggest mistake last year to me.

I don't know what their budget was, but Sennek basically had no staging imo (I don't take into account the first ten seconds). The camera work was basic as hell, the white lights in the background did nothing and the crowd around her ruined any potential atmosphere that could have been set. Maybe they wanted to do it like Sobral on his island, but Sennek's song demanded another kind of presentation: she should have performed on the main stage with an intimate scenography and play on lights and angles.

It's even more a shame to me that the music video was so artistic. I thought creating a similar vibe on stage wouldn't be an issue for them.

Seriously, I think I can speak for all Belgians that there was a collective facepalm during that performance.
