I really hope they pick Ilkin Dovlatov internally next year! His voice is just incredible, and he totally carried FAHREE's performance this year.
Did anyone else catch that traditional song on YouTube where he handles most of the singing? He’s got serious vocal chops. If they give him a solid song, I'm sure he'll do great!

Someone who can sing.
And possibly someone who doesn't hook up 4 days before the semifinal

Nowadays, the Eurovision landscape seems to be so freaking fragile, e.g. if a butthurt country/artist doesn't qualify, they threaten to withdraw or condemn the contest, e.g. Romania, San Marino - and thus, I'm really happy to see :az: staying in the competition.
It sucks to miss the Grand Final for 2 consecutive years but honestly, both entries weren't competitive at all - I liked their 2024 entry but Fahree's tone was utterly beige and lacklustre.

I wish Ilkin will give it another chance. With the right song, :az: could easily qualify again.

Does that mean that they're ditching the artist first, song later approach from the last 2 years? If yes, good.
Didn't they have the singers performing their own songs last year, and choose one among them? I remember watching videos of possible candidates.

ETA: Here

I don't know the details of the selection system they used, though.

After not qualifying for the GF twice (+ finishing last in the semi the year before), Azerbaijan got a new head of delegation:

The head of the Azerbaijani delegation at the Eurovision Song Contest has changed. Nurlana Jafarova, a well-known presenter who currently is Head of Press, has been appointed as the new Head of Delegation. Nurlana Jafarova was previously the editor-in-chief of the of Music and Entertainment Programs editorial office of Azerbaijan Television from 2017 to 2020. She then moved to İctimai TV, where she began working as a presenter.

New Head of Delegation of Azerbaijan for Eurovision 2025 Nurlana Jafarova and Advisor to the CEO of the company for the Eurovision - Azerbaijan project Maxim Tsurkov:

Nurlana said that if she was considered worthy of this position, she would try to do everything possible to justify the trust in her, said that she is waiting for very interesting work. Among the participants of the selection there are very famous performers. Regarding the topic of the number of applications this year, she said that many write that 154 songs are too few. The reason is that foreign composers send their compositions less and less, as they see that for two years now preference has been given to local works. But among those sent, there are very high-quality ones.

Before that, Nurlana was the head of the press service of the Azerbaijani delegation to Eurovision, and Maxim was the Head of the International Relations Department in the İctimai TV.

P.S. sorry for bold texts, formatting doesn't works.

Quality over quantity.

It's a good approach to highlight Azerbaijani talent - I just think that the Azerbaijni delegation didn't make the right choices in the last two years - especially since we got more promising vocalists among the "finalists".
