Re: AZERBAIJAN 2019
Okay, off-topic question discussion time: People throw the term "masterpiece" around all the time and like... why even? I do not understand. Does that make you feel better when you can slap a "masterpiece" label on any remotely "artistic" ballad that tickles your fancy? I don't know. "Start a fire" is way too boring and safe to earn any distinctive title, but cling to its conventional blandness if you must.
Personally I very much disagree with the entire Salvadorian narrative that music either has to be stripped down to its barest essentials or has to be Bohemian Rhapsody in order to be Quality. Music and the enjoyment thereof is highly subjective but I don't feel better than anyone else for liking or hating certain entries. For instance, I think "LoveWave" is a top 5 song for the 2010s; but I also think the same of "Round and Round". Is the former a masterpiece that's TAKING OVER ME? Maybe. Is the latter just a fast-food song you play on repeat? Perhaps. But both offer
precisely what I want in the form of brilliant melody, visually stimulating show, emotional attachment and impromptu bedroom karaoke, despite being each other's fundamental opposite. They're both god tier for me because they provide me with infinite entertainment and that's #MyTruth.
At least your self-confessed love for ethnic turkish flute noises indicate that you probably like "1944".
. I thought "1944" was a bloody
amazing entry and deserving winner, despite of the narrow-minded, disproportionate hatred it gets from the Eurosnobs for
daring to sound different than what western traditions indicate music
should sound like.
Azerbaijan definitely
deserve props for having strayed away from the beaten track in 2015-2016-2017 and hopefully they'll do the same this year.
