If you cant even sing your own song why is a jury member going to give you any points? A musical jury is going to rank ability to sing your own song above anything else this is really basic stuff

I feel bad for Pia Maria and Lumix, especially Pia Maria. I thought her vocals were good, considering what we saw in the first rehearsal. They were entertaining and song was catchy and fun. Deserved to qualify more than Switzerland and Moldova.

Why would they have chosen her if she had been completely incapable of singing the song right from the beginning?

And if you care so much about full vocal quality then you should really watch The Voice instead.

i was just giving an example of an entry not sung well that was pushed to the final by the juries. and if we wanna talk about 2022, IMO there were other NQs who did a better vocal job than Marius and his dying cat voice (pia maria is not one of them don't worry) but to each their own I guess

I think Austria was probably around 8-10 in the televote but I'm pretty sure it was bottom 3 with the juries.

The question of judging the vocals imo isn't "to which extent can an act hit their notes", but rather "hitting your notes is expected to be a given - how difficult it was to hit them?/what more can the singer show us with their voice on top of that? ". Hitting notes isn't an unearthly feat, it is what professional singers do. One or two mistakes can be overlooked, a constant struggle not so much.

But anyway, I am sorry for Austria, if it were on me, you guys would definitely go through, the song is fantastic. I wish you better luck next year

I didn't put too much on it during the rehearsals, but last night I really wondered why they did their staging that way. Completely isolating them in their little stage surrounded by a big distracting 'halo' limiting all kinds of movement, camera shots, interractions etc...

I wish it had qualified, though, mistakes were made.

for an amateur she did an excellent job but why couldn't they just give the song to an actual singer then?

i've read that a couple of times now, and the thing is: they DID ask an "actual" (<- as you call it) singer. not just one, they asked a few. one of them has 60.000 monthy listeners on spotify and her most successful song has over a million streams. guess what: nobody wanted to do it! and then the manager of a different artist (who did not participate in the preselection but was asked) suggested pia maria.
we can debate if it was the right decision to let an unexperienced newcomer perform in front of millions but at least she had the courage to do it, so i respect her for that
