While it's good they are exploring the option of having the backing vocalists to improve the vocal situation, but they better not do what Greece 2017 did where the backing vocalists basically did the heavy lifting. Because I would despise the Austrian delegation for that.

I think the aim is to counter the narrative that she drowns in a playback by her own backing voice. The backing voice is then more distinguished from the main voice so this cannot be claimed as the comments did on social media. Of course they could have chosen the easy Swedish way, or who invented the recorded backings?

Your explanation does provide light as to why they chose to use actual backing vocalists instead of the pre-recorded ones just for differentiation of the vocals. However, I am only fine if these backing vocalists/pre-recorded vocals are there to provide (minimal) support, and not a blatant taking the main lead where the lead vocalist just comfortably hide behind them.

Okay, so I still don't get why this is so terrible.

If there is one thing I hate, then it is Lum!x in the role of swimming animator. I wish he can shut up on the ESC stage.

Pia on the hand had no backing support at all. She is keeping up with the pace of the song and carries the vocals all by herself. There are many videos on youtube of superstars and also ESC acts with muted backings and they truly sound atrocious. She doesn't.

So, for Eurovision, she will have backing support and a lowered key. I hope people stop tearing this girl apart, and rip me instead for hating my comment once again.

i dont understand the whole discussion. backing vocals are not a new invention. it is just normal that songs include backing vocals. live backing vocals will let the song sound different from the studio version, thats what I expected from the very beginning, I am happy with this.

Just had a strange experience on ORF2. I was innocently watching the news and afterwards there is a short trailer of this evening's program. And during a trailer of a movie called "The presumption of innocence" suddenly I hear "Halo". I immediately checked what other device just started to play on its own and then realized it came from that trailer. Very random.

When I recall right he lived after finishing school in Upper Austria 8 month in Turin and moved then to Milan where he is currently living. His mother is Italian.

It wouldn't make sense to do another probably lackluster performance now. Maybe Halo only makes sense in a big production live setting. So they are right to focus on that.

I have come to terms with the fact that Halo could crash and burn in the semis. It reminds me of last year, when I thought, that Amen is different enough and would stand enough against all the fuego bops, when in the end many more interesting songs crashed in the semis and it was predicted. It's an ongoing theme since 2019, when Portugal and Paenda crashed out.

Juries never pushed a song with a Eurobeat, they rather drowned it.

Being famous doesn't help, ask Kate Ryan.

OGAE voting is fine, but not stellar. If the televotes go like this, it's gonna be close.

Pia Maria has an uphill battle against a wordy, fast paced, high pitched song and her lack of charisma. She kinda looks awkward on stage. Lumix acting as a party animator is quite cringey also.

On the other side, competition is very very mediocre. But in recent years mediocrity prevailed over originality.


In 2015, Sweden and Italy got sweet spots in the ranking order. Sweden is the only country since then as a host, that has awarded Austria a sweet running order in 2014. All other host countries screwed us over. Italy could be the second host country that could give us some love and support, if we move on to the Grand Final. These countries won semi and televote back then in Vienna. Grande Amore was such an epic Grande Finale in 2015.

Well, if Pia Maria pulls that off at least halfway and Luca lets his vacation resort animation, the biggest advantage of the tune is that it makes a very good immediate impression for people who haven't heard it before. Of course, it's nothing to listen to reverent or think about.
Eberhard Forcher just said on ORF that in Austria you very rarely hear from artists that they want to take part in Eurovision. If this crushes, they will never again persuade an established artist to participate only the desperate ones.
