Diana Rouvas is the best so far by a country mile. I’d be very happy to see her in Rotterdam  However, this selection in general so far feels like a massive step down quality-wise from last year. Hoping some of the remaining artists have songs worth getting excited about.

Casey Donovan - Proud

Malta called. They'd like their bless ballad back.

Diana Rouvas - Can We Make Heaven

Malta called again. Ira Losco specifically on the line this time. This was meant to be her 2021 comeback.

iOTA - Life

I love the tone of his voice so much. I really get those Tim Curry vibes at times and I live for that. The right kind of theatrical for me. The song is.... eh, alright. It's unfortunately not an insta-wow for me, but then I think it's something that could grow, and I really far from dislike it. This man would be fabulous to see at Eurovision but my initial thoughts are that Life would get Australia their first semi flop.

Mitch Tambo - Together

Gosh, this is the worst one for me. Not many things I dislike more than such basic, uninspired pop with a little sprinkling of something ethnic on top to titillate Eurovision fans. This is so boring, insultingly safe and corny. A huge no (for me). I imagine it would do well enough at the contest.

Jordan-Ravi - Pushing Stars

Already spoke about this one yesterday, and it remains the best song up until now. I feel embarrassed though for saying so, and I'm a shameless man who doesn't do guilty pleasures. It's not great but has some charm at least.

Jack Vidgen - I Am King I Am Queen

This triggers my Sam Smith music disliking demon inside. Holy gosh, no. Don't do this to me. "I am kwayne" ok henny. Personal grievances aside, this is bang on trend for Eurovision. Watch the juries eat it up. They'd be impressed by the warbling and message. Public perhaps less so.

I'm putting all my faith now in Montaigne, otherwise I don't think this is going to go too well for my tastebuds. Mitch and Jack are bottom of my list contenders any year, but also the only ones here along with Jordan who I think can get Australia out of the semis.

This just about sums up my thoughts on the contestants so far too. I probably wouldn't have any in red, as I don't particularly hate any of them... but that still just leaves a sea of orange blandness. Which is a shame, considering that I got quite excited about our NF last year and had like 4-5 songs I would've been happy to send.

For now, the bless Maltese ballad is probably my favourite of the lot. But there's nothing likely to end in my top half for the year, and there's nothing that really promises a result higher than "maybe 18th in the final if it's staged really well I guess". I'm hoping for something better from the remaining contestants.

It's a shame. I hope the last few can provide us with something more exciting. Initially this seemed quite an interesting lineup but these mostly all feel like internal choices you'd have made a couple of years back, but weaker somehow.

I listened to Diana's bless ballad again just to see if I felt any different the second time around, but still it's kind of just there for me being inoffensive but not stirring much within me. Maybe the live performance will lift it a little. Pushing Stars and Life I think are they only two so far I'd actually devote a little time with to see if I could get into them more.

Thank you so much for this funny post. It really made me laugh, and I have to agree 100 % with your views.

Australia decides looks very disappointing this year. Australia could very well not qualify from the semi finals judging by these songs. All of them are so generic and boring.

I think Australia should seriously consider going back to an internal selection

I actually adore "Together" but the chorus is such a letdown in the song...
Mitch is an incredible performer though so I think he might elevate this all live, and I would love if they added more voices during the last part of the song because "we're together"...

The most bizarre thing about Together for me is that the production makes his voice sound bad - like he can't sing at all? Which definitely isn't the case. It'll probably win despite being crap. Seeming more likely that the "Australia have finally got their act together" claims me and others were making last year have been premature :(

Tumblr, mostly.
God Sam Smith didn't even cross my mind once until Rainy mentioned him (an everyday occurance between Sam Smith and the mind of Boris "BorisBubbles" Meersman), but this is all too fucking true. "Together" is the exact sort of song Sam Smith would unironically deem woke, socially engaging and inspirational. It was already my least fave song in the selection, but that association cements it. Many thanks for your earthly wisdoms, senpai :bows:

With all due respect: personally, I don't see the difference between these songs and the entries they chose internally tbh.

It's funny without being funny, but if one single artist had sung this bunch of songs, I feel like it would have made a very coherent album. Everything (minus IOTA) sounds the same.
