My verdict on the snippets:
1. 'Life' - That is the most r/TIHI moment I can say to a staging. I just can't with iOTA aimlessly going on the stage. And that vocals, ooh mama.
2. 'Pushing Stars' - I guess I'm okay with the song, but not really for the staging. It looks kind of blank and the background belongs to Junior Eurovision.
3. 'Rabbit Hole' - We're into something visually striking here. It's really like Diana Haji's staging in Kyiv but the maniacal rocker girl version. I stan, hope the Australian public and the juries doesn't underrate her criminally, it really is a high-grade topaz.
4. 'I Am King I Am Queen' - well another r/TIHI moment for me. I know that's basically the gay church brought into life but all that men wearing barely a top, the dancer, that note saltos... um. It could probably go to r/MakeMeSuffer too
5. 'Lessons of Love' - a really classy choice to see the ghost of Amorosi singing after the car crash. The song turned stronger live, Vanessa delivered so good. The bridge turns so repetitive, though.
6. 'Can We Make Heaven?' - It's really enjoyable live, until I reahed the staging part. The staging is certainly a choice, as if the elements don't mix up. Is she trying to be the SBS version of Columbia Lady or something?
7. 'Together' - One of the only few strong elements here is the Gamilaraay language. The dancing part, though. Appropriate and lifts the song, but maybe not the neon tops. Ditch them.
8. 'Proud' - Serving so much Jo Zette we can just ditch Destiny and send Casey to represent Malta in 2020. The staging is simple but effective. I don't want to rule this out too early, but it got that Glennis Grace 2005 vibes and that's preferrably not a good sign.
9. 'Don't Break Me' - probably my Montaigne bias but this is also visually striking. I don't really dig the doll aesthetics, though, but it comes off really clever on stage and fits the interpretation of the song. And all that dancing, boy. Montaigne must have some set of iron lungs to do that.
10. 'Raw Stuff' - Hey, I like the simplicity of it! Does the staging remind you of a particular Dutch singer? I do, too! Aside of that, it's really raw and stripped down, it might be another pick of mine for this national final.
For the stage itself, I prefer the one we have last year. The floor on this 2020 version looks awfully bulky and is just not comfortable to see.
4.30 PM tomorrow I'll eat some chips and watch some Australia Decides in my kost room!
