Ooooooooooooooookay. This was quite a trip for me.
Heard the song the first time when it was officially released 3 hours ago. Me then: Meh 5 points. Then I was busy. Now I read thru the comments and liked a few posts who expressed the same feeling I had three hours ago and who gave 5-6 points. That was a few minutes ago.
Now I listened to the song again and thought I needed to clean my ears again because the song is ... pure art. I LOVE it! It is experimental, yes, and may not reach everyone, but for me it is one of these songs that gives you something new everytime you listen to. So Armenia take my :12:!

Everyone is talking about the rap, but I want to talk about the final chorus.
Hopefully it’s not just me who feels this way, but the last chorus sounds extremely discordant melodically, to the point where it sounds like she is singing almost off-key. “I decide to be good, do good, look good” seems to be written with the wrong notes. If that’s how it sounds in the studio version, then it’s almost guaranteed to sound even worse live. Which is a real shame because the orchestration of this song seems like it was written specifically to be performed on stage.
The final chorus is what kills the song, not the rap.

Another song this year that doesn’t work for me at all. I mean that rap part?! Out oft the nowhere? Killing the whole vibe? Until there I thought that this is more a jury song now it’s just a big mess and it will have a hard time qualifying anyway… :2: points from me.

Tumblr, mostly.
Not feeling this one. The rap is not without merit, but the beginning and end aren't doing it for me. Brunette feels a bit lifeless in the clip too.

I feel like Armenia will either get it together on a stage and do very well, or this will be an inconspicuous flop, with no inbetween.

I'm giving a preliminary :5: with the caveat that I may change the score after I've relistened to everything.

Sorry but I´m simply not a big fan of these entries that sound like 2-3 songs mixed into one. It starts as some kind of ballad in the beginning, then completely out of nowhere this rap part comes in and in the end it sounds a bit "folkloristic". xstars

For me these three parts simply don´t form one unity, it´s just a messy mixture of music stiles that don´t fit together. And to be honest I think she should have sung completely in Armenian, her English pronounciation isn´t that great.xthink

All in all I give :am: a weak :3:, I can listen to it but otherwise this just leaves me confused. xshrug

That's not her voice entirely in last chorus. There are back vocals.

You should listen to the song with proper sound system, not on mobile.

@mauve ear bugs or headphones mandatory.

The whole Thing is so artificial.
And where exactly is the instant Appeal?

3 Points, but probably less in the Future.

Yeah, I really like this one! One of the most interesting songs of the year. I rate it :12: based on merit, originality and melody. Great addition! Not quite there in my top 5 yet, but I got used to the other songs I love by this time and I'm loyal xD

On another note, it really really annoys me to have such cool interesting different songs in 2023, only to know who's gonna win 2 months prior :-/

Anyways,

"Future Lover" is a rather awkward listening experience. It suffers from a patchwork-like pace building that "Unicorn" is doing, but in a ballad version.

That first verse is awkward. It's supposed to be poetic and beautiful but the casual cracked English destroys it. Then the pace rises up a bit, and this is the only section with the phrase "future lover" in it. The chorus is okay, but a little edit could be done to make it less monotonous.

Then, comes the rap part. It's pretty good for a melodic rap, there's a build up in each and every section. I'm more concerned with the way this would sound live, though, since some of the words weren't pronounced as 'natural' as expected, and Brunette's other raps were in Armenian.

The final chorus is beautifully composed. It's exactly the amount of energy we need after that buildup. There's also a section of it in Armenian. It's a beautiful closing statement for the song.

As sections, they're beautiful on their own. As a song, its pace isn't keeping my attention. It's already losing steam before that rap part hits. If listeners are patient enough they'd be treated with such a beautiful finish. When they're not, it's a toilet break moment.

I initially wanted to give :7:, but the pacing downgrades it to :6: for the moment. I'll be seeing MrGerbears ranking sequence app to see whether I actually like it more than I said.

I feel like this is Fly With Me 2.0, it's conceptual but it doesn't really go anywhere

Quality modern ballad to please juries with rap part to stand out for public, I actually really like how they blend these different types. I really enjoyed a verse with rap - definitely the best part of the song. But I'll :6: to the pool because main chorus is not the strongest and very monotonous and last chorus in armenian sounds a little bit disjointed from song itself. Also song lacks some kind of strong culmination. Not a bad song overall, but it'll struggle in semifinal and final if it gets there.

To my surprise all first three rankings of youtubers I came across include Brunette - Future Lover in their top 3! I think in the 1st place even twice, is it just recency effect?

I love that Armenia didn't send another "ethnic bop" and decided to send something Unique. This is a lot better than Israel in my opinion, but I do wish she sang in Armenian, because those lyrics in english are something. The be good, do good, look good part is extremely repetitive, and I originally thought that it was Armenian, due to her diction. Her diction isn't great, but it isn't as bad as Azerbaijan 2014. Overall, I like it, but there are some issues.

I've given a 4 here. Very few melodic highlights in the song. So the twists and turns in the composition aren't that interesting. I doubt a good live performance can make up for that.
