I would hardly call moving to Argentina as meaning ''originating in Argentina'', which is what the rules specify is the requirement for joining.

Of course, if the rules aren't being strictly followed and are somewhat lax I'd imagine that wouldn't be a problem, but even her official site remarks she's Uruguayan.

Artist/group eligibility:

For an artist or group to represent your region, they must satisfy at least one of the below criteria:-

- they must have been born in your country/region,
- they must be a citizen(s) or a current resident(s) of your country/region (temporary stays due to recording new material, touring etc. aren't enough),
- or they must have achieved the majority of their success as an artist/group in your country/region.



Natalia Oreiro lives in Argentina since she was 16 years old, and she has achieved the majority of her success as an artist in Argentina. So, she fulfills 2/3 of the requirements, while only 1 is enough. xshrug

She IS Uruguayan, but she lives in Argentina and she's making her career in Argentina which is more than enough for her to represent that country.

The success one is questionable. She's naturally more famous in Uruguay than in Argentina.

It does look like she's currently living in Buenos Aires though. So yeah, for this contest and with these rules she qualifies.

3 years ago, I remember that I've asked a tourist if he's from Spain and he answered me "No, I'm from Argentina" and then I said "Oh, far far away from here" and then it had come to mind Natalia Oreiro and I had just tell her name to him and he smiled and said to me "Yes"! I believe that she's very famous in Argentina... :? :confused:

:lol: all career she made in Argentina: music, artistic (series, movies, treater etc.) and of course she is more famous in Argentina (one of the biggest stars in Argentina)

Worthy successor of an underrated entry last month. Hope you'll qualify and do a bit better in the final. :)

Yeah, no.

Sure, she did all of her career in Argentina. She's not the only one to do that from Uruguay. That doesn't mean she's likely more relevant in Uruguay than in Argentina, where's she's one of many actresses or singers at the peak of her singles (like say, when ''Tu veneno'' was all the time on the radio). And unless things have changed a lot since her times in Muñeca Brava and the peak of her musical career, then nope, not one of our biggest stars.

But I won't argue against the way the rules have been set here. She works for those and she's probably a great choice, it's just looked odd that the number 1 person mistaken as Argentinian to be representing it.

That's more than enough to have someone representing a country no matter where he is originating from. There are numerous examples of artists that are not natives of a country but they make their career there. For example, 90% of the Cypriot artists have their career in Greece. Representing another country or region in WorldVision does not make someone less Uruguayan or Cypriot or Kiribatian.
