We could have a change at the top for the first time in ages! I think the UK must have had the lead since the 70s, but with their recent performances and that of Sweden, we could have a change this year

Also Andorra & Czech Republic should be added in the list, although they have no points.
I wonder if the points of Yugoslavia should be splitted to the seperated countries...The same for Serbia & Montenegro.
The gap between UK and Sweden is very small, so i dont exclude a change at the top of the list.
After all, Sweden has taken over 800 points last 4 years, and UK less than 200.

8th place for :es:, but lower than Greece (they came 13 years after and missed many editions) or Norway (with the record of nul points) is a bit embarrassing.

However, we're still higher than Switzerland, Netherlands or Belgium out of the countries that are here from the beginning, and Finland which joined the same year as us.

Spain is alright :)
I don't know why but Europe is always underrating Spain in ESC ...

I'm curious to see a version of this which accounts for changes in Eurovision over time. Clearly, the current version is influenced primarily by which countries have participated for the longest, and so relatively strong Eurovision countries that have only debuted recently, such as Azerbaijan, still appear in a low position. In order to properly show the average performance of all the countries, I can think of three things to adjust: dividing each country's score by the number of years they have participated, accounting for the number of countries voting in each year (so that participants in the earlier years don't have a lower average due to only having 10 countries voting on them instead of 40), and normalising the voting system, which from memory has not always used the 12-1 scoring method.

The first of those things is easy to do, but the other two would take some thinking...

Also the countries which have been succesful in the recent years are favoured because there are much more countries participating and voting now. I think that's the reason why Greece, Russia or Ukraine are higher than many cassic countries.

It's just matter of time before Sweden take the top spot. It could happen already 2015 I think.

It looks likely if Sweden continue on recent trends and UK continues to fall flat on its face. I cross my fingers that we retain our top spot.

I'm not surprised with our place here xshrug We managed to be in Top 10 only for two times, we scored 100 or more points only at once and since 2004, :pl: was in final only for three occasions + totally senseless absence in 2012-2013.

I think that e.g. Moldova, Slovenia and even Latvia are deservedly above us.

Watch out United Kingdom, that spot is Sweden's in just a couple of years.

Quite interesting, Azerbaijan has climbed up so high in just 7 years. Luxembourg has not competed in years yet got 1.4k of points (and back in the days less points was given). And Israel in top 10? Who ever gives points to them?

Israel did have some amazing periods in Eurovision. Won late 70s, top 3 in early 80s, had some great places in 90s including a win and also mention Shiri Maymon in 2005. So Israel has got a lot of points in a short time, despite missed the final a few times now recently.. :)

Everybody has periods we're it goes really good and periods we're it goes really bad, and I guess the bad period is up now for Azerbaijan
Not only was their win one of the weakest ones ever.

I disagree. While Azerbaijan's results are very good it's in a very small sample. Sweden has won in almost every decade since 1970. That's more impressive I think. It's harder to stay at top in a long time than do it in a small sample as Azerbaijan. Ask France. They were so hot in ESC in the first decades with 5 victories. Now they don't have a win since 1977.

In those decades, were participating 12-19 Countries (all European Countries except 1-3).Ireland,UK,Luxemburg,France & Netherlands were the most common winning countries...
After 1995(maybe earlier) joined post-Soviet & Balkan countries..
Since then none of the basic European Countries won the Competition(without worth it)
When Azerbaijan made its debut, were participating over 35 countries and the results Azerbaijan has managed is among several countries and not like those years!
