Next month the world cup begins but meanwhile lots of changes happened and most of them reflect discredit on the International Handball Federation
Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates wirthdrew arguably due to political reasons (it's not sure though). Consequently these teams should have been replaced by two Asian teams but instead the federation decided to give one of the free places to Iceland which is great for me as a fan but totally pointless from an objective point of view
Fair enough, giving the place to an European team is positive for the quality of the tournament, but the question is: Why Iceland?
When they looked for a replace for Australia a half year ago they choose Germany, because this were the best placed team from the World Cup 2013 which didn't manage to qualify. So far, so good.
But the reason for Iceland's wild card was their 5th place in this years Euro... that smells like arbitirariness. As the president of the IHF I gotta take either the WC 2013 ranking as a factor or the Euro 2014. But not such a mixture...
I forgot to mention that the other free place was given to Saudi Arabia (6th placed team of the Asia qualification) and not to South Korea (5th placed team!). The IHF didn't explain that, everything is untransparent.

It's not a secret that Germany got a wild card because it's the most important Handball association and usually the TV ratings of handball competitions here are relatively high... That means good profit for IHF.
Now a funny fact: German television channels ARD & ZDF didn't even ensure the rights for broadcasting the Handball WC
Maybe Sport1 will ensure the rights, that's actually the only alternative, but anyway that's a big fail for the IHF

Nonetheless I will follow the competition because I like this sport, even if I have to watch the matches on internet

Still finds it a disgrace that Germany and Iceland has been put in instead of Australia and Korea Republic (6th in Asian Qualification after Qatar, Bahrain (withdrew), UAE (withdrew), Iran and Saudi Arabia). If it is decided beforehand that a number of nations from a continent will qualify, than it should stay like that and not be changed. It is then better to change it til the next world Champs. Anyhow, will be interesting to see, I doubt we will beat France (we never beat them haha) but 2nd place should be able for the swedish guys! :D

HRT didn't buy the rights for Worldcup broadcasting, so it will be broadcasted by RTL (which is a totally trashy TV).....obviously the subscription we payed to HRT wasn't enough.... One more funny thing in all this mess here......:)

Tournament is starting on Thurdsay, I can't wait for it. I have some doubts about our national team, but as always I believe in they. How about you guys (and girls)? :D

Schlagerman1 Brazil defeats Denmark in the quarter final?
If this match will come you can become a very rich man if you bet on Brazil and they really win :D
Good prediction though

I won't do a big prediction just some words to my favourite teams
I'll support both lucky teams that actually didn't qualify :is: & :de:
They had two friendlies a week ago in Reykjavik. First match Germany surprisingly won 31:24, the second match Iceland got his revenge by winning 25:24

After years of frustrations Germany seems to be in a good condition right now. The new coach Dagur Sigurdsson (Icelandic coach  ) makes a great job and the chemistry gets better and better. They also defeated :cz: twice by 8 goals advantage in first match and by 5 goals in the second. I think these are great results. The 19-years old Paul Drux played fantastic and he is probably our best talent. Hopefully he can maintain his great form to the world cup.
Of course we have to beat :ar: & Saudi-Arabia . I think we are not worse than :ru:, they are pretty average. We should surpass them. :pl: is the team we play against nearly every competition  Tragically we lose always but the matches are always very tight, so there are just little details that prevents us from defeating them.
Against :dk: we are without a chance
So in conclusion... I guess we reach the 3rd place, in positive case the 2nd place. 4th place would already be a disappointment (on the other hand we should even be happy that we're allowed to participate)

:is: 's last results were not impressing (apart of a surprising win against Denmark) and many of the important players are already over 30 years old. Much depends on world class player Aron Palmarsson. His influence is very remarkable. When he stands on the field Iceland is much better and the team has more self confidence then.
They will fight for 2nd place against Sweden, but I think they will end up on 3rd place

According to the schedule it's not unlikely that :de: and :is: will meet each other again in the round of 16

I don't know why I feel Brazil will do well, I think it has to do with that the womens team won the World champs recently and with the upcoming Olympics I have a feeling they could surprise. ;)

World Champion - :dk:

Danes don't have a lot of luck at this moment, they were defeated in a few last finals of WC/Euro. But I really hope that it will change this year and red & white team finally get a World Championship on Qatari soil :D

:pl: is the team we play against nearly every competition  Tragically we lose always but the matches are always very tight, so there are just little details that prevents us from defeating them.
Oh yes, I believe that it will be a quite close-fought and dramatic game + it's a most important match in group stage for both teams (because we don't stand a chance with Denmark )
