There's still a while it to kick of but i'm already extremely excited about this. This is one of the greatest events Turkey has ever hosted. I wanna give you some information about it for now.

The tournement will be held between August 28 and September 12. 24 Teams are competing for the championship.

Here's the official logo and the mascot:

The mascot is called 'Bascat'. Van is eastern city of Turkey and the cat who's only in there is known with its blue and green eyes.

The preliminary rounds will be held in 4 different cities; Ankara (Ankara Arena - 10,400 capacity), Kayseri (Kayseri Arena 7,000), ?zmir (Yaay  Halkap?nar Sport Hall 10,000 capacity) and ?stanbul (Abdi ?pekçi Arena 12,000). Abi ?pekçi Arena was also the venue of Eurovision Song Contest 2004 as you know. And rest of the rounds and the grand final will be in ?stanbul Sinan Erdem Dome Sport Hall which was built specially for this tournement.

Here's the draw:

Group D matches will be in my city, ?zmir. I'm definitely going to France's and Spain's matches.

I know this will stay in silence for a while because of the sounds of vuvuzela  But then we'll all feel the excitement of basketball championship, i always find more excited than football matches. :)

Yeah, I am very excited about this even as well :D

Serbia is one of the contenders for the gold together with Spain, Argentina and Turkey, so I expect a lot

It's strange how we are playing against Germany and Australia here as well

Macedonia was about to qualify or get a qualification group. :( Too bad, because Germany is in and Germany was behind Macedonia on the Euro.
Anyway, I am rooting for Canada. :D I know one of the players, Aaron Doornekamp.

yaay

Well, I'm not that excited (football will always rule  ) about this at all, but it will be interesting too.
Wish good luck to Spain to keep being the current world champion apart of the European one :D

BTW today was the Spanish League final and TAU defeated Barcelona, yay!

Ahh...basketball...my old sport xheart

As former basketball-player I'm also looking highly forward to this big event. As usual there are no Nordic countries to find anywhere in this tournament ( ), but that doesn't change the fact that this is one of my favourite sports, and always has been (only beaten by football).

Let's keep the trophy in Europe. USA, Russia, Serbia, Spain, Lithuania, and Greece are all contenders for the victory as I see it. :)

Well I don't think that we will reach any "serious" success there...hahahhahha...our basketball sucks, we have no good players like we used to have earlier.....so I don't think I should expect anything from this tournament  .....only maybe...but purely doubt.... :p

Haha, yes, good observation. They're our destiny for 2010 :D

I'm looking forward for 2010 WBC, I always like to watch basketball, and that time of year (aug/sept) is usually boring for me, so I'm extremely happy there will be such a great event at the end of summer! :D
I expect Serbian team to play good, they're in good shape now, as long as I know.
Spain, Russia, Turkey, Germany, Greece....will be in top too, but world champion will be USA;)

Why can't Sweden never be good at Basketball? :(

If they were, I would for sure look at this tournament on TV! :D
We have though a pretty good womens team, that took silver in U-21 a couple of years ago and could maybe qualify to a Euro or World Championship hopefully! :)

i expect USA to win this they haven't lost any single match since 2006 vs Greece......
Serbia will be very strong,Lithuania will get eliminated very soon as their best players are missing.Greece can do well now that the good players like Diamantidis are back but we seem to be always losing against spain for some reason....Spain will be strong as always even without Gasol.....France will not have parker and other nba players so they won't achieve much....Germany,Slovenia and Croatia are all mediocre teams won't do much.....the only question for me is Turkey....i expect them to be very powerful at home...i hope Greece vs Turkey game will be as exciting as in last year's european championship.

Does the head of the mascot have any special meaning?

It's '' Turkish Cat ''.The cat is recognised in an all-white form as well as the form with red patterning and a "fox tail", and with blue eyes, amber eyes, or one eye of each colour.
