It has known recently that to the representative of our country Eva Rivas 3 wonderful performers will help to sing and back up her on the stage . This is the background vocals. Their role is very great in number and important for the singer. Today we interviewed Mariam Merabova, backing vocalist of Eva Rivas at the competition in the Oslo. Mariam is not the first time going to the Eurovision. She shared with us their impressions, feelings and plans for the competition. Speciall for the OGAE Armenia.

Good morning, Miriam. You once again will be performing at the Eurovision stage, what do you feel?

Twice I happy! First, I again perch in this crazy pace of work, in a fantastic positive that comes from it all, without exception, I am happy to meet again with many, who met at different times in the competition. A special joy for me is that, finally, I'll go out on the Eurovision stage under the flag of my homeland!

Tell us a little about yourself, your family and career.

The roots of my tree is very long. Mom's mother was born in Shushi - Ghoukassian, and with my father's side roots from Kars - Alahverdyan. Families, mothers, as the family father, moved to Tiflis. Genocide of 1915 and took away four people in our family . I was born in Yerevan, and up to six years has lived at Tumanyan. Then my mother and I moved to Moscow. My father died when I was three years. Since then my mother did not married. My husband, a great musician, composer and just man, Armen Merabov, my 20 years of friendship ties and five years of marriage. I am happy to share the stage with this man, I'm happy to be a good wife and happy that we are growing very good two daughters. Armen - son of legendary in the Soviet era musician, composer and conductor Levon Merabov, which has long been a leader and conductor of the orchestra of Muslim Magamaev. The song "Robot" for a young Alla Pugacheva, too, he wrote. Armen Merabov pursued his musical path laid by his father, but devoted his work strictly to jazz. Soon we will celebrate a decade of his project "Mirayf", in which I am a permanent soloist. I easily can say that jazz has taught me to feel it was he! About myself I can say that I have been doing music professionally in five years.

And up to 17 years, I did not know that I'll be a singer, as well as a very tightly engaged in the piano, went to competitions, to give concerts. I studied in Moscow, first in the school Gnesin, but I did not like it, and my mother took me to school after Myaskovsky, who wore "casual" title "Armenian", as both the director and the main teaching staff were Armenians. I was lucky in my life many times and what I got in teachers is Irina G. Turusova played a fundamental role. This is it made me realize the depth and hear the music, serve music and forget about yourself. That she showed me the movement and the meaning of a musical phrase, the energy, which are filled with the sounds. It was she who taught me to love music. But all this I realized only recently. And then I cried and was angry when she locked me in class and lupila on his fingers))) When I threw Merzlyakovsky school and enrolled at the Conservatoire (Oh, the horror!) On vocals in Gnessin, she stopped talking to me. Several years ago I came to her and gave her albums. That evening she called and said that she forgives me. I was happy.

How do you still have time? You loving mother, wonderful wife, a wonderful actress? Discover the secret of your success!

In the first place my family. This was and always will be. Nothing and never do harm to the family, whatever that I did not promise. My children are growing and I'm sure that they must bring their own example, and thus most can not deceive, betray, steal and kill. Words - it's just words, and deeds allow me as a parent to claim a child that I want to lay in them. My husband - a believer and a prayer before a meal for my children perfectly natural in our family is a fact. As for me as an artist, then in the first place in my music and just want to be a good loudspeaker between God and earth. Only when a person leaves the ego, you can try to begin to create with God and in the name of Him. This does not mean that I do not take money for their work, but that money can not change me.

Do you have friends in the Armenian show business and who you see as the representative of Armenia in Eurovision in the future?

I can not say that I have friends from a purely Armenian show business. I'm friends with Sona, which has long lived in Moscow, but whose home is considered one of the most traditional Armenian houses. Since Mher we were together in the musical «We will rock you". Musical set in Moscow on the legendary musicians of «Queen" Brian May and Roger Taylor. I am familiar with those who represented Armenia at Eurovision, I am familiar with some popular artists of Yerevan, but as such a close friendship with them there. I have great respect for each work, as it really talented guys. A first record Aiko, which appeared in Moscow, we did almost to the hole listened. Among my close friends is Armenian families in which the national education has always standing in the first place. In this culture and spirituality is not lagging behind. I am glad that my children are not separated in this sense of roots, as once was in my life. My husband and I really love with all my heart and make friends with magnificent Armenian musicians, who can rightly be called world-class musicians - Nikoghayos Armen Vardanyan and Usnunts. As soon as we arrive in Yerevan, always try to visit their homes, as the warmth of their families incomparable with any vip-apartments on North Avenue with views of Swan Lake.

Have you watched the Armenian qualifying round? What kind of impression, who are most like?

I tell you honestly, because I have nothing to share with anybody, and I do not like to "play the King", as he had never been in a suite at the trough. Most of all I liked Eva Rivas. This is a very good product, not only for national selection, but also a very good European product. It keeps perfectly, her regal grace, and children's facial features, because of growth, it immediately drew the attention of all. And she is a real fighter! It is so strong spirit of competition, that it charges its energy. And, finally, the main thing - as she sings Eva Rivas has a very powerful and bright timbre. When we worked at the studio, I heard - this is a worthy representative of Armenia in Eurovision. Just on the background of boring monotony of singers with bright pronounced , strong vocal presentation of Eve is the winner. She is very charismatic and you will see confirmation of this during the contest.

When the first time you were at Eurovision, and how was it?
You have often spoken on the stage of Eurovision! Who was easier and more pleasant to work?

I can definitely say that I am delighted with how Lorak from super professional person, very honest girl, madly beautiful soul and the outside, very funny and positive, without any "star" excesses. And the whole team picked up a surprise! A friendly group I have not seen. With many I still make friends.

No wonder you try your hand at Eurovision Song Contest as a solo singer?

I do not understand why I was there not long ago sent !)))) I know it all and love, and especially the director, whom I go to the pet. All those involved with the Eurovision, we, too, I know, love and appreciate. God willing - I'll go. .

And what would a song? And under the flag of which country?:)

If I went out for Armenia - it would be a victory and my personal and the country, because to understand the deep love of country can only be away. I put some in the reproach that I do not know much language, and my answer is always that we must act before the people honestly and in this - what will be the main patriotism. And in general, creative people - a man of peace, as his art is able to please people all over the world, with no gradation of nationality, religion or social status. Therefore, we are proud when, in museums all over the world hang pictures Saryan, Minas, when mega star shines worldwide Sher, which hardly anyone dares to say: "Ara, Sher Jan, why do you not know the language? Did not an Armenian? ". We are proud when a child search out Armenian names in the credits of films and find them, we generally like to be proud of their roots and history. So I'll be happy if my motherland deem me worthy to act under its flag. But if just another state decides what I should go to represent the country, then I'll go, because it's my job - to make people happy. Because Josseliani creates for many years in France, he does not cease to be the best representative of the Georgian people. Just this is what the state has provided this opportunity to master the creative implementation, and we are happy to see his films. Are you satisfied with the level of Eurovision Song? Do you have favorite songs that have been made at the competition? It varies. I have such a character that I can not work without loving the song. And I'm so its "sick", that for me it was she who becomes the favorite.

How did come the offer to work with Eva Rivas and "Armenia production"?

No secret is not here. My old acquaintance - the founding president of the production center "Armenia production" Valery Saaryan phoned me. I only had to hear that I need the Armenian team at the Eurovision, both within myself, I already gave unequivocal positive response.

Do you like the song "Apricote stone"? Do you find a piece of yourself in this song, because song about a girl who grew up far from the homeland?

Of course, the song is very beautiful. And the parallels with the song will find anyone who grew up far from the homeland. My husband was born in Moscow, but the call of the blood is the call of the blood - he almost burst into tears, first set foot on the land of Armenia. I suffered much from childhood and crying, so my nature did not take cold alien city. I know its pedigree well, because by some miracle, my grandfather kept painted on stamped paper with double-headed eagle, the tree of life. Several years ago I made an inquiry on this paper in St. Petersburg, where in the archives of our origins, confirmed the signature of the emperor. These papers are stored in the archives of St. Petersburg.

What are your impressions of Eva Rivas? How is she as a singer and as a person? You have already managed to make friends?

I have said before what I liked in Eva most. She very much wants to win and she has every chance of to.She is warm and decent, no fake smiles. Crease and did not equivocate in its nature, since it is fairly straightforward girl. Sheis irreconcilable and quick-tempered, that gives birth to her voice, special nerve. I liked it and I hope it'll happen next.

It is known that in the backing vocals are still Tigran Petrosian and lead singer of "Dorians," Gor Sudzhyan. You must be already familiar with them. What are they?

I am delighted with colleagues with whom I have to share the stage! Tigran we were already familiar glimpse of Eurovision, but I have not heard Gore was just subdued talent! However, we sound great. Tigran very fine musician with a fastidious ear, as they say, and Gore is rampant and open. Above all they are just wonderful guys and I am sure that we will be very pleased to work together.

How do you assess the chances of "Apricot"? Can it bring Eurovision to Yerevan?:)

Definitely the song has a high rating right now. Closer to May, it will certainly in the top five contenders. To win is all the chances and a lot of advantages over other countries.

Thank you so much for the interview, Miriam. Good luck to you and to us! :D

Thank you all for your support. Support us with all your heart.Believe me, we really feel your support and it give us strength.

Re: ???????? - Armenia 2010 - Eva Rivas - Apricot Stone

I don't know if this was ever posted here but here is a backstage peek at what was going on at the Armenian NF from a non-biased point of view. Not looking to start any arguments here, just thought it was a good perspective and explanation from someone who has zero to gain from making up lies and rumours (albeit I thought she made some sweeping statements about the general Armenian opinion). Maria Kizirian wrote this on her blog a month ago:

"I am now back at home after a whirlwind time in Armenia. What an amazing experience this has been! I will never forget it, and I am truly touched by the outpouring of support and love I have received from so many people, both in Armenia and abroad. So Thank you!

There has been a lot of controversy surrounding the Armenian Eurovision this year, and I would like to also weigh in with my perspective. People warned me that the winner was likely to have been pre-selected, since the Armenians have done so every year. No one believed that the selections were going to be fair. I knew my winning would be a long shot. So I don’t have any desire to contest the results, kick Eva Rivas out for my sake, or do anything like that. My gaining as much publicity and name recognition to the point where I am recognized everywhere I go in Armenia – is incredible given the fact that I was there for only less than a week before the finals. So I hope to continue on that success and build a relationship with the Armenian people over time, and maybe try again for Eurovision some day.

The show seemed stacked in Eva’s favor from the beginning. Here are a few reasons why:

First: One obvious evidence of corruption was that the random draw for song placement wasn’t random: Eva was given her slot, #9 in advance. She even commented during the selection program to someone sitting next to her that she was told which one to pick beforehand. This told me that the TV network was “okay” with trying to appear legitimate without necessarily being honest.

Second: During rehearsals on Feb 13 and 14, she was allowed to rehearse for 2-3 hours at the Opera House, whereas I and other artists were given 10-20 minutes on Feb 13 and about 5 minutes on February 14 (before the Final). Also, on February 14, I was not allowed to have a sound check with the in-ear monitors – they were busy building Eva’s stage set.

Third: One of the main topics of the competition is the outcome of the SMS votes. Nadezhda Sargsyan, Emmy’s mother, from the act Mihran & Emmy has made some news by suing the telephone company in Armenia for allegedly allowing only Eva Rivas’ votes to go through. Emmy and Mihran experienced the same thing I did: numerous people have approached me telling me that they tried voting for me many times and their phones gave them an error saying the votes didn’t go through. Then, just as soon as the 15 minute voting window closed, all the votes went through!! These votes didn’t count, yet they were still charged the ~$1.25 per vote.

In conclusion: I know that in Western Europe, any conclusion from such a system would be in serious doubt. So I am of course curious to know the results of this investigation since it affected my fans as much as it did other acts. But even without a completed investigation, Armenians are growing tired with having the fleece pulled over their eyes: as soon as Eva’s win was declared about half of the audience left the Opera House at the start of her winner’s performance with many saying that she’s “shameful.” The sentiment on the street is that Eva’s “boyfriend” Samuel Karapetyan, (who’s brother is the chief of staff of the Armenian President) bought the competition. Maybe this is true, maybe not. I don’t know. What I do know is that she speaks just as much Armenian as I do. I will let the EBU decide anything related to the competition.

Even still, after all is said and done, I don’t think I would have had a chance to win anyway since my performance was not up to my own standards- because my in-ear monitor was turned off just as I was about to enter the stage! So basically I sang with ear plugs in my ears! All I heard was a muffled sound, and had to try to sing to that. I was surprised I got as much love as I did after a non-stellar performance. And for that I will always love the Armenian people.

Now one tantalizing tidbit I heard before the show was that Mrs. Sargsyan was talking to a few folks in the Opera house halls about turning other contestants in-ear monitors off. My source is reliable, but I don’t know for sure that it was her who had it done to me, but it was done to me, and no one else had the motive. If Eva in fact knew she would win, she wouldn’t have had to resort to that. No other contestant had the influence or chutzpah to do it. I had gotten to know the others and think highly of the contestants.

So now we have uproar about Armenia in the Eurovision yet again. I don’t know if Eva cheated, or was able to position herself into a winning position because of her money and powerful backers, but the people of Armenia seem to believe that she won with dishonest means. I don’t know if having Mihran or Emmy would have been the better option either, since I think I experienced their corruption first hand. They’re not exactly honest people anyway since they have been saying since last summer that they were the selected winners, trying to psyche the Armenians to believe that their win was inevitable. Based on my experience, I believe that they would have resorted to Eva’s alleged tactics themselves if they only had the money and power.

Europe, however, will be the final judge. If there were shenanigans involved and the EBU finds the Armenian selection process to be unfair but allows this to continue nonetheless - I believe that in the end, the Europeans will select the best song, and raise it to victory. Let true democracy and the best song win in Oslo. Let the games begin!"

Re: ???????? - Armenia 2010 - Eva Rivas - Apricot Stone

evilperson20 , I don't get why did you post it since it appeared month ago in that lady's facebook? what's your point maybe to prove the correctednes of your nickname?

when I first heard of Kizirian I thought she was half Armenian though she wasn't the Armenian type .only in this forum I learned out that she was Finnish. I don't think it's right to represent or try to represent a certain country when you have nothing in common with it, it's a bit unfair coz in your own country u may have little chances to win.

as for Nadejda Sargsyan -she is first of all Mother and she will defend her daughter notwithstanding anything. she does what any mother would do in her place.that's naturall

I'm sure Europe will judge the song rightly and the singer , too.
and those adventerous aka Kizirian will eat their words and green with envy ;) good riddance Kizirian , we have done our choice and u all have to respect it ! ;)

evilperson20 , I don't get why did you post it since it appeared month ago in that lady's facebook? what's your point maybe to prove the correctednes of your nickname?

when I first heard of Kizirian I thought she was half Armenian though she wasn't the Armenian type .only in this forum I learned out that she was Finnish. I don't think it's right to represent or try to represent a certain country when you have nothing in common with it, it's a bit unfair coz in your own country u may have little chances to win.

I agree with you 100 %! This has been always in national finals, the singers who lose, they try to say bad things about the winner, but it is very arrogant and childish. The singer must know how to WIN with honor and how to LOSE with honor and congratulate the winner. So i think that this post is pointless, and as far as i know MOST of the armenians are just very impressed and delighted by Apricot Stone and Eva Rivas. She is going to be a big star in Europe, believe me. after you see her show;) they say that there has never been such a show which Eva Rivas is going to stage in Eurovision:) so we will wait and see :p

at it isn't only in Armenia there was so much noise out of Nf's.
look what's going on in Ukraine for example, in Russia, just the difference in Armenia and above-mentioned coutries is that here in Armenia really people's fav has won. I understand that not everyone can digest Armenia's being one of the favourites this year, but posting such stuff you don't bash Armenian entry as you may think ,you only promote Eva and Apricot Stone and this thread , too ;)

APRICOT , yes I also watched the show with Eva Rivas and Saaryan on 15 march . btw, Saaryan is the man of his word and I trust him on 100% .

Yes,i agree! This year i like only the songs from Armenia,Turkey,Greece,Serbia,Spain,Israel and Cyprus. The other songs for me are a big time disappointments! This year Armenia has very very high chances on this background!

I can't wait to listen the new version of Apricot Stone! Hope we will hear it very very soon:)

and if you look up RANKING GAME thread Armenia twice won it, then twice was in top 3 , and all this without diaspora voting :)
Eva's team should focus on the countries that usually don't vote for us.hope they'll go there on promo

Well, I just found this a few hours ago that's why its posted now and please I really didn't have any bad intentions. I was just trying to represent the story from all sides and there was no denying that there were bumps in the road to selecting Eva Rivas which were quite obvious and somewhat suspicious.

I agree with you that Kizirian doesn't represent the opinion of the whole of Armenia and I even said I thought she made some sweeping statements and generalizations based on some of her observations. There are probably a lot of Armenians that supported Eva Rivas right from the get-go. The thing is though, despite this she really has nothing to gain from this mud-slinging (if it can even be called that). I thought she wrote in a very fair p.o.v. and gave her side of the story - someone who wasn't a favourite and knew from the start they had little to no chance of winning.

Also I like Apricot Stone and I thought it was the best option for Armenia overall, but that doesn't mean I'll turn a blind eye to this. Obviously you'll defend Eva Rivas despite anything, I think you've posted copious amounts of promo material for her here and that's okay, but if possible, try seeing things objectively.

Re: ???????? - Armenia 2010 - Eva Rivas - Apricot Stone

evilperson20 ,Kizirian can't represent anybody's opinion in Armenia .she was one of the contestants. she herself said that she wanted to become known through that contest.I don't care what she says , just one should know how to lose with honour . this adventurer when was asked why she didn't try to participate from her motherland said , that she -Kizirian doesn't want to say bad things about Finland , but in her country it's very difficult that a good song to be chosen.

so what do you expect from a person who disregarded her own country , hoping by this to get some poor points?

who can be sure that she doesn't envy to Eva and her success with people? just compare them too.and how can I know that she doesn't trying to attract attention to herself by using black piar against Armenian singer?

Loving Armenia again this year!! Love the lyrics of this song and it's sooo catchy! I can't wait to hear an even better version! 12 Points from me! I think the ethnic vibe of the song may struggle to win over western europe however :( I can't imagine this scoring too highly with UK televoters which is annoying...

Valeriya Reshetnikova (Eva Rivas) is a program on Armenian TV. She speaks fluent Russian, so people who speak Russian can watch the video as well
