exactly. In Baroque music, that was a common thing: create a very simple melody so that many composers can do variations on it. A Passacaglia is basically a form of variations.
The most famous example for this are the countless variations on "La Folia", a piece that is just made up of a few notes and (as the Passacaglia) is just one line long.
So it's natural to recognize this simple melody whenever it is taken for a variation. And since the first harmonies are also common ones, once you split them into notes - voilà! Similarity is inevitable, cuz there are not 35 ways you can split chords.

Interesting, I don’t recall ever hearing a true passacaglia at Eurovision before but it sort of reminds me of how Nemo borrowed that opera riff from The Magic Flute last year. I really like the piano elements in this song but using an almost identical riff to me just feels a bit off, even if borrowing from classical music is common practice in songwriting.

I find the melody charming, love the piano and the vocals are top tier to be fair. Like it's actually gosh darn stunning when the song explodes and Yuval's voice rasps up like that. Perhaps the biggest wow moment of 2025. What I'm a bit iffy on are the English lyrics. At times they flow quite strangely and the "new day will rise" part comes across as broken English. This would have benefitted from being performed entirely in Hebrew.

I'm going to come in cautious for now and deliver a really strong as I want to see if it retains its power during future listens.

This is just Indonesian generic ballad copy no. 1000 being sung in three different languages. I've been familiar with this kind of ballad sound for years, and it has been popular in either OSTs or pop songs. It's boring for me.

But vocals in this type of ballad do kill though. This could highlight Yuval's vocals well.

So, well.... this is difficult. I genuinely do not know how to rate this without getting political, because this song still feels like playing the victim card - and I hate that. Israel really used their televote score last year as "Look, Europe supports us!", and I'm very uncomfortable knowing that'll happen again.

That said, trying to just listen to the song, it's.... meh? I do not vibe with the whole "the Voice casting followed by slapping a Eurovision writer on it" procedure in the first place (I just realized this year that this is likely why I never really liked the german entries Raab was involved in. So inauthentic. Yes, I hate "Satelite"). And than Israel finds great singers, but the songs are 100% exchangeable to me. I'll give this 4 for Yuval, but that's it. And that is probably all the Engagement I'll give Israel this year. I just hope things will be calmer all around this year....

I meant at Eurovision itself but oh absolutely, that one was a shameless rip-off and Canon has been done to death. As long as she’s able to get away with it, I guess it doesn’t really matter but it still feels like a lazy choice. That said, I do still like it.

2010 was a complete different Eurovision era though.
This hits like "Echo" from 2023 down to the iffy english.

It very much reminds me of Polina and that was one of my worst runners up ever (Next to Belgium's fake language song)

My biggest concern is that it's basically a blatant attempt at grabbing sympathy votes and it's very reminiscent of X Factor, which was notorious for the sob stories. I just wonder if she's going along with it, or is the broadcaster taking advantage of her? It just seems like a cheap sympathy grab to me, especially when they are pushing her experience as her big selling point. If this was any other country, this would be dead on arrival since the song is very much like it's straight from the Simon Cowell playbook.

Would I be happy if the UK tried something like this with a Manchester Arena survivor for example? Not exactly
