Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2016

If Darline don't win I'll so massively disappointed! I absolutely love the song and think it seems to incite more praise from people than any of the others, which is why it has to be sent IMO. I don't see Karl or Joe and Jake supporters raving about their respective songs- it seems to be more of a case of "best of the bunch".

Also, contrary to what some people are saying I actually think Darline could do very well in May. People forget the contest isn't full of Måns Zelmerlöw or Loreen upbeat dance tracks; Until Tomorrow would stand out on its own in a way the Common Linnets did if the staging and everything is done right.

Having said that, I have zero faith in the British public and fully expect a Karl or Joe & Jake, even Bianca victory. I worry the average viewer will think Darline doesn't sound "Eurovision" enough for them, as if only a certain type of song will do well. I hope I'm wrong! Darline simply must win.

I fully expect for us to finish bottom 5 if we go with Darline or Bianca. Darline seems to be popular whereas J&J/Karl seem to be equally popular but with their support split. My only hope is that the vanity of the gay vote will swing it in favour of the guys. I can't see many of them voting for two girls with guitars.

Darline is the UK's best bet for a good result. With good staging and vocals it could get left side of the scoreboard.

Its the sort of thing we've heard before and I don't recall girls with guitars ever doing well at Eurovision so I don't see why that'd change now especially when we factor in it'd be a UK entry...

Karl has also been heard before but the difference is his song and style is tried and tested.

Meanwhile cute guys with guitars are always a crowd pleaser and that A Friend In London sound has been proven to stand up in the voting and it's what people have been asking us to send for years...

joe and jake are the best of a boring bunch imo, and unless they manage a good performance i don't think they'd do well in stockholm.

I just can't take to Joe & Jake's song at all - it's so dull and goes nowhere. Darline has the only song I find myself wanting to hear again...

Praying for a Darline victory but really worried that Joe and Jake are going to take it with their forgettable lump of mediocrity just because they look good and they've been on a talent show. Come on UK... don't screw up xpray

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2016

After listening to the songs again, my ranking would probably be the following:

1) Darline
2) Bianca
3) Joe & Jake
4) Karl

I am undecided between the final 2 (Matthew and Dulcima).

Although they have been on the voice I dont think anyone knows them

I dont think anyone remembers people from the voice in the UK.. I know they say it gets 8million viewers or whatever, but its really not a show people care about.. I dont know anyone who says "ooh I need to get home and watch the voice" Nobody I know even talks about it, never mind watches it

I can name 3 people who have been on the voice, thats Joe & Jake and Bianca (Electro Velvet) and thats just because of eurovision..

I have watched a few episodes and actually remember Lydia Lucy because she was the sister of a lad from Times Red who were in XFactor and a few eurovision singers went on it like Jay Aston..

Maybe its just me and my mates who know nothing about it :?

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2016

Can't believe the day is here for our first national final in over half a decade!

Looking back at where my favourite act finished in past NF's, I've not done too bad (altho a lot of 2nd's, ew):
2004 - Hyrise (2nd)
2005 - Katie Price (2nd)
2006 - Anthony Costa (2nd)
2007 - Scooch (1st)
2008 - Michelle Gayle (2nd)
2009 - Mark Evans (3rd)
2010 - Josh Dubovie (1st)

Trying not to get my hopes up but really really want J&J... something different for Eurovision, PLEASE! C'mon ma boys! :D :uk:

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2016

My current ranking is...

6) A Better Man

...Big gap...

5) When You Go
4) Shine A Little Light
3) Until Tomorrow
2) You're Not Alone
1) Miracle-oh-oh

I'd be happy if any of the top three won, wouldn't rule out 4/5 either depending on the performance.

Re: UNITED KINGDOM 2016

Final thoughts before tonight... I could still be happy with 4/5 of the songs... and like 4 of them (Joe & Jake, Bianca, Darline, Karl)... and am unchanged on having to make a decision based on the live performance!

I have, however, stopped to wonder how this might be played tactically... of the songs I like so far (Iceland, Malta (if still Chameleon), Germany, Switzerland, Norway (if "Icebreaker" or "Afterglow") and Poland (if "Cool Me Down" - and surely the one to beat if they select it)... I notice they are all female performers... so perhaps it is worth the UK sending a male act to balance things out and stand out a little more? Having said that, none of these are folk-pop (well perhaps, slightly, Iceland), so Darline could do well against that line up in picking up votes that prefer a different sound... Having said all that with it's calypso beat and epic pop-ballad chorus perhaps it is only Bianca that could take on a Polish entry from Margaret with its strong Rhianna vibes? Anyway, who knows! There are still so many other countries to choose - just a thought!

Happy viewing/voting everyone!

This way of reasoning is meaningless. ESC is a song contest, and the song is the only thing that should matter. All the other details are irrelevant.
