Im merely making the point that had Russia or Ukraine or Bosnia or Turkey sent Jemini, James Fox, Daz Sampson, Scooch, etc, I can GUARANTEE that the songs would not have come like last, and quite possibly would have done well.

I dont think there's even any doubt about this so I dont know why people cant admit it.

Turkey failed to qualify in 2011, in case you don't remember. I can guarantee you the same would happen if they send something as cringe worthy as Scooch or Jemini. And if Ukraine finished 2nd to last in the semi-final back in 2012 with "Be my guest" I'm pretty sure it would be even worse with "Cry baby"

They've only managed a to get the top 10 on 5 occasions, out of 18 years of participating.

Don't say things like that, you'll let facts get in the way of his ranting.

As for the MHIY comparisons between Turkey and UK...wow. I'm with Rainywoods, Sertab's song is one of the best winners of all time and to even compare some average UK entry to "Everyway That I Can" is just insulting. There is nothing worse than bitter UK fans who can't accept that they send shite most years and deserve exactly what they get.

I could accept an argument that Molly was SLIGHTLY underrated last year. The song was excellent, but the live performance was shocking, so I can't complain that much. Every other recent result was pretty fair.

Bosnia could send Dustin the Turkey and get top 10.

Ah, the opinions of 2008, good to see you after many years.

Now I know that everybody has their own personal taste, but let's be honest, they're very similar songs

So having female singers and a middle eastern sounding background music is enough to consider those 2 songs very similar?

Turkey 2003 is my favourite Eurovision winner of all time. Sertab didn't have a perfect vocal but the performance was sizzling and full of character. Javine's song was nowhere near as enjoyable a piece of music. It had a darker overall vibe to it musically and it almost didn't feel authentic coming from Javine. I think there is a reason Sertab is still very close to many fans hearts. She was a great winner. "Touch My Fire" was an attempt to jump aboard a bandwagon that sadly failed for us. I can totally see why it failed. However, I actually can't remember that year very well, and what we were up against.

In 2005 we were up against Helena, Chiara, Romania's Stomp act, a granny banging the drums and Shiri's epic song.

I totally agree, we do have a big Turkish diaspora but the singer we chose for that song wasn't Turkish, so it just seemed like a lame piggyback on a successful formula.
That bhangra song in UMK is probably the only kind of ethnopop we could get away with because of our Asian community, but this country is so Anglocentric it would never even be considered.

First post back after a year - hope everyone is well! Have not done any research into who's already qualified or the usual rumours who we'll send. Thoughts this year?!

Welcome back bashersxwave Lovely to see you again.

Lauren Harries' name is being thrown around a lot. She recently debuted her very first single "I Am A Woman" that is rumoured to have been submitted to the BBC. She's a massive fan favourite around these parts. Many of us are hoping she's the one.

The Wondervillains tweeted me saying 'Eurovision's the dream :D' Vita Carradonna, an Aussie singer, also messaged me on facebook showing curiosity about sending a song to Eurovision for UK.

If this was actually submitted it'd be the best British entry in a very long time. Hopefully similar bands were shortlisted!

Let's hope the song quality will actually matter.

Well yes song quality will matter, but countries like Ireland, Lithuania, Poland (and possibly Malta) start off with quite a good advantage in our televoting.

Yay! :lt: Gets some auto votes from us! :D

Yes I'm brimming with excitement at the thought of it. I want them to stay in the semi again. Hopefully out Jury won't like them and vote them highly like they did last year.
