60-79
Best result: The Naked and Famous - Punching in a Dream - 1st in NSC 66
Worst result: M83 - Couleurs and Caribou - Kaili - 22nd SF in NSC 64 and 75
An era that continued where the last one left off, with six more non-qualifications making it 11 editions since Cydoni-Gibberia had last participated in an NSC final; Efterklang's softly spoken "Caravan" unable to enthuse voters in NSC 60 with similar results achieved by the brash electronica and lengthy artist names of We Plants Are Happy Plants and Totally Enormous Extinct Dinosaurs. Everything Everything, a band almost worshipped in Cydoni-Gibberia, took their first foray into the contest, achieving a 12th place semi-final finish, but this was still not enough to reach the promised land.
Dismal finishes from similarly revered electronic acts in the nation, M83 and the returning Fear of Tigers, saw CyGiTV begin a new contest; Cygovision. The first edition of solely Fear of Tigers songs did not see much success, but the second run out of the selection was about to change everything.
Ten acts were chosen to participate in the first multi-artist Cygovision for NSC 66, and the choice was clear; The Naked and Famous roared to victory with a 57 point lead over the second placed act, Late of the Pier's "Space and the Woods". "Punching in a Dream" went to the jointly-hosted contest in Perryfornia and Zaprya more in hope than expectation, but it happened - Cydoni-Gibberia finally made it back to the final.
Few expected what came next, however. Drawn into third in the final, the band racked up numbers the likes of which the Cydu public hadn't seen their own entry achieve - earning 207 points and narrowly beating Zoidiac's The Sound of Arrows in second. Cydoni-Gibberia had finally won the Nation Song Contest, ending years of misery and bringing an eruption of joy and national pride to the nation. The contest was coming to Vardychinov!
NSC 67 was organised by CyGiTV and welcomed 58 nations to the Vardychinov Arena, including the debuts of Xhanostania and Llama Republic. Fuck Buttons with "Surf Solar" was long touted as the nation's first eventual host entry, and managed to avoid last place in a fiercely-contested final. The contest had been a success, and the Cydu fanbase wanted more of the good life.
Shortly after, the nation celebrated 50 editions with a very local sound from - doo, doo, do doo HEY! - An English Settlement. Sadly the band did not qualify, but managed to better the scores of some established acts in the semi-final in NSC 69.
In NSC 71, the nation turned to Coldplay's anthemic "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall". Despite finishing bottom five in the semi-final, the song achieved the unusual feat of qualifying via the rest jury, and soared in the final to an excellent fourth place, at the time the second best result for the nation. It later transpired that late votes from Canedonia would've resulted in an immediate second victory for Cygo had they been accepted. Alas, it was not meant to be - but who are we to begrudge the first triumph Tír an Abhainn instead?
More experimental entries followed; niche performances from Kids of 88, Kill Screen Music and Bunny Lake achieved varied success, while there was time to fit in one more top five finish; Hooray for Earth's "True Loves" proved a surprise hit with the NSC community, finishing second in the semi-final and fifth in Kostanovia.
