Going for Poland here, pretty much for the same reasons as A-lister. While there are a few other songs here that I prefer to Poland's this year (specifically Hungary, Armenia, and maybe Montenegro/Belarus/Malta), I do feel that a Polish victory would take the contest in a good direction by encouraging more native-language songs, bringing back some retired countries, and leading to a resurgence of songs with ethnic elements (which are often my favourite entries).

For purposes of hosting, Portugal and Romania are the best options. I'll go for Portugal.

As for A-Lister's post, It's not surprising that I disagree completely.

Not my favourite among all of these, but Hungary may be a good host. I'd love Montenegro though, but it's an impossible dream

For me, the best virgin winner could be :am: Armenia or :hu: Hungary, but also if :pl: Poland will get a Grand Prix I'll be very happy :D

Why am I not surprised?

But this also proves my point that you couldn't care less if the contest turns into a homogeneous, middle-of-the-road, Safe Anglovision

It doesn't prove anything of the sort. I'm not particularly interested one way or another. I want some ethnic stuff, but not just for the sake of it. I has to be good enough to compete with the safer songs, and it rarely is. It's mainly down to the fact that I think the Polish song is garbage. If it was good, I would support it like any other.

I just disagree that Poland would be a worthy winner because of the TYPE of song they send, rather than the quality of it.

The cold, hard truth is that whatever Eurovision originally represented, is now gone. We can debate whether that is good or bad, but it is the reality of the situation. I choose to not let it bother me that much. It does bother you, and I respect that passion but I just don't care enough about the "meaning" of Eurovision to get worked up like you do.

I don't think that the language is the most important thing in the Eurovision. I hate this "Anglovision" word with passion. I don't care that our song is on Hungarian, English, Italian, etc. That's not the main reason for me to like the song or not. It's not a "Languvision". That would be boring, if we always send songs, which are pure Hungarian. I know that f.e. NOX (2005) sounds good for Europe, but facts:
1. We didn't win with that.
2. Sending something like NOX in every year, wouldn't make us boring?

This is a no brainer. San Marino of course. It'd give such a huge confidence boost to all countries that feel they can never win this whole circus.

I voted Portugal. I lived there for a year and it's a beautiful country. Just a shame they don't seem to have much luck with talent and effort fir Eurovision.

Hungary would be the best virgin winner, because it is in the heart of Europe and doesn't belong to Scandinavia nor former Soviet Union. C'mon, wouldn't it a be a nice break from the Nordic-Soviet pingpong if we came to Budapest next year?
