The problem is, without the Giant the performance is desperatly bland. Very unusual for Ukraine.

I agree. But I'd rather have something simple (or even bland) instead of those awful things in 2009 or 2012 :?
My favourite Ukrainian performance ever was Alyosha's and she sang all by herself. But of course, that's everything a good song needs

Oh plz, 2009 was the best and most impressive stage-show we've ever seen in ESC, how would even something "simple and bland" work for that entry? It all depends on the type of entry, some entries requires more show while some may fit with more minimalistic type of shows...

I miss the days we also had big shows in ESC, the juries hate that though...

I sorta agree on the staging, while it looked nice I think, I felt like it was very stiff... I was actually a bit worried that it wouldn't make it even because there was something distant in it that left me a bit cold.

The song is not my fav this year, but it deserves a top. 10.

It was one of the best songs tonight, congrats. But it was expected. And I don't think the performance was too much, at all. The giant which is the only weird thing about it appears only in the beginning of the song.

PS: I was hoping this will overshadow the totally bland Russia that was before it so Russia would fail, but they both qualified.

She just has to stand there, wave her arms, and sing well. That's all her performance needs. She is that beautiful.

The performance wasn't as over the top as I thought it would be. I thought the backdrop was beautiful and Zlata looked and sounded amazing.

Although they had the backing singers standing in the back and dressed in black like they wanted to blend them in with the dark backdrop and yet were still clearly visible. xwhat. Perhaps they would have been better hidden if they were on stage dressed like trees or something to fit in with the whole forest/fantasy theme.

I think she was holding off. I still thought she did a great job. I liked this and enjoyed this. Good thing that this will perform in the second half. No matter where, she is bound to do well!
