Hidden camera footage from my house this morning.
That first verse.... oh my goodness that first verse!!!? There's something about the atmosphere it creates that just absolutely has me spellbound, hanging on tight to every word she sings. A spectral kind of beauty. Like you've stumbled upon a beautiful forest full of giant mushrooms. Making your way through the dew-kissed spiderwebs, you reach a huge proud old oak that reveals at its chest a hidden door with stairs that lead you to Jesus (the chorus).
It's utterly stupendous. I'm actually in shock with each listen. The production here really speaks to my soul. Akin to finding an old, beautifully aged VHS tape in the attic, warped ever so gently by the hands of time. And her vocals... goodness. It's the full package here for me. Ana's presence on the song astonishes me from the very first note. So deep and yet comforting, and even fragile at points. She takes me on a journey with this song and the incredibly touching performance of it.
My one criticism is that it ends too soon, and that's not its fault of course. This is a song that really could do with an extra 30 seconds to allow us to bask in the rapture of that final chorus. Make Eurovision songs longer!
What an easy 12 points to hand over here. Whatever happens this May, it's just a treat for me to have something like Voda at the contest. Such a supreme experience.
