I would hope that Ponte's previous failed ESC adventure with Lumix would give him a little hint about how just bringing a catchy song isn't enough, but a good performer and good staging are both essential as well. Ponte also has something to lose from the humiliation of crashing out in the semis after all the hype the song has received in Italy. San Marino have proven that they can stage a song decently (Achillie Lauro, Megara), so I think that experience together with the budget from Gabry Ponte's deep wallet probably will keep the staging from being a total trainwreck.
Maybe Bonomo and Roberts can remain masked? But they NEED to be moving around the stage and not just be statues. Both of them seem to have at least some experience as performers according to their Wikipedia articles, so I hope it's just the sound mixing of San Marino that messed up their vocals. They need to focus more on the singers and convery energy, instead of constantly zooming in on Ponte miming and unhinging his jaw making his mouth as wide as possible.
