Did it come across as more of a joke or was it seriously meant? Because based on all that was said officially so far, it looks like another disaster in the making...

But if they turned a 180 and went all Russian with it, I'm all for it and it might actually turn out good then... but I'm not very optimistic that will be the case I'm afraid...

Did you know that former member of Modelsice Sandra married one of the richest Russian businessman Andrey Melnichenko and now she is super rich bitch

And yes, Russian cinema become great in last decade. My faves are Loveless and Leviathan by Andrey Zvyagintsev, Led by Oleg Trofim, Tri bogatirja, Guardians, Last warrior, Mathilda is great movie too. Than Legend about Kolovrat great historical action, Battle for Sevastopol..... uh so many great movies. And now I am watching sitcom Kuhnya (Kitchen, Biković play in second season too)

Yes, that song Yugoslavia gets me every time I hear it. The first time I heard it, I was crying actually. So, it seems that transnational, pan-Slavic bonds are being reestablished and reaffirmed from time to time. Unfortunately, here in Slovenia not many people know about Russian pop-culture. Well, no-one is reporting anything. Only when Putin goes topless for hunt, then we get "star" news

To your list, I will add only one film that you should have listed in your post: Attraction/Prityazhenie!!! That was super nice movie. Oh, and Dragon of course. The alien guy in Attraction was super attractive. And he is a Russian Tatar. Damn, he is so hot

Yes and i still don't get the thing about Anastacia Prikhodko, she is Ukrainian and represented Russia (actually won the NF there!!!!!) in 2009 when Russia was a HOST!! :?

Anastasia Prihodko was a great entry, I agree, and I didn't find it strange that she (as a Ukrainian) represented Russia... It shows only how closely connected are cultures and history of these two nations... Otherwise, I must say that my favorite Russian act is/are still Serebro. I am still following their careers - Elena Temnikova made a huge solo career in the meanwhile. And Olga is great too.

One question though about Yulia's "folk" song. What kind of "folk" are we talking about? Is it like accordeon-folk (which I hate, I hate accordeon, Slovenian folk music is based on Austrian accordeon, I cannot stand it) or the type of folk like in this song?

If we talk about later type of folk music, then Russia is in for the win again

Dear Lord, yes, I warmly suggest you to watch the movie... Rinal alone is worth of it hahaha. Though the bad guy, the main antagonist is also cute. Damn, there are so many handsome Russian guys We always talk about hot Russian women, but the fact is that there are also hot, hot, hot Slavic malchiki

Actually, it's user ratings on Polish version of imdb is 5.9/10 which means the film gonna suck major. But I'll do that for him. I definitely do that.

IMDB is not reliable source of ratings. Not anymore. A lot of people register there in order to bring down a movie or to bring its grade up. I definitively recommend you to watch trailer for yourself and read comments in Youtube. I think that Prityazhenie is the best blockbuster movie ever made in Russia. Acting and effects are on point, and the story is simply nice.

But if you want more of Rinal, then I suggest you to watch also Holodnoye Tango (Cold Tango), it is a political/historical movie happening in Baltics. Great story. And Rinal is also sexy there, though he "dies" in the end.

Honestly, the fact that he dies in that movie is only a tip of an iceberg. The whole story is superheavy, and it deals with so many issues related to Soviet history of WW2 and post-WW2 periods. But the main focus is (at least in my opinion) on the story of an unlikely couple that falls in love in these turbulent times. In my opinion it's well done, and very good take on this "historical" material, to which I can relate on personal level. At the same time, the story has also important implications for modern times - it problematizes and asks questions about the limits between personal life vs. public life, individual vs. society. Well, try it. Russian cinema (whether you see it as propagandistic or not, and in my opinion, art is propagandistic in its essence per se) currently offers some great movies that offer a great alternative to English-language based cinemas in USA and UK. However, just don't take too seriously Guardians, which Mrm suggested. That was a bad movie in my opinion . Much better movie is Nochnie strazhi. Ah, in a way, I envy you. I've seen most of these movies, and now I can only rewatch them, but it is never the same thrill as when you see the movie for the first time...
